VALERIE SWIFT is an accomplished dancer, singer, actor and writer. As a dancer/singer, Valerie opened for THE POINTER

SISTERS, AL GREEN, BILL WHITHERS and SISTER SLEDGE to name a few. A highlight of her career was opening for

and performing with legend ARETHA FRANKLIN at Carnegie Hall and Ford Auditorium. Valerie also performed with

THE DUKE ELLINGTON BAND conducted by Mercer Ellington at The Roseland Ballroom.

Valerie played ‘Cassie’ in A CHORUS LINE on the national tour. She was ‘Anita’ and ‘Anybodies’ in the international tour

of WEST SIDE STORY and ‘Curly’s Wife’ in OF MICE AND MEN at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.

The effervescent stage performer had a night club act developed around her for the opening of the prestigious Crystal

Room Theater in Tokyo, Japan and was the headliner in TOP SECRET at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas.

She moved to Los Angeles and played a 'Dancing Cop' in the Michael Dinner helmed OFF BEAT and other feature film

credits include diverse roles in MOSCOW ON THE HUDSON, TALL, DARK AND HANDSOME, DREAMERS, WINGS

OF FREEDOM, HANGING HEART, THE SHADOW MEN and UNTIL THE NIGHT.

In the television movie OUT OF THE DARKNESS, Valerie held her own opposite Martin Sheen and went on to a comedic

turn in THE BEST OF BURLESQUE. She appeared on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, MOMENT TO MOMENT, CITY

OF ANGELS, DIVORCE COURT had a recurring role on THE GUIDING LIGHT and the opportunity to showcase her

vivacious personality as the Host of THE NoHo SHOW.

Valerie's love of theatre continued with diverse roles on the Los Angeles stage playing 'Phyllis' in Woody Allen's CENTRAL

PARK WEST at the St. Genesius Theatre, the 'Prison Psychologist' in THE VISIT directed by Ted Lange (DramaLogue

Award) at The Complex, 'Kendall Carter' in MY DADDY'S AMERICAN GIFT directed by John Ford Noonan at the

Tiffany Theatre, 'Lupe' in Sam Shepherd's ACTION at the Court Theatre, 'Monica' in Jean Van Tuyle's hit IDA directed

by Jules Aaron, 'Franny' in EMMA'S CHILDE directed by Shashin Desai at the International City Theatre and the title

role in THE TEMP directed by Sal Landi at the White Fire Theatre.

Valerie starred in the independent feature HOLLYWOOD to rave reviews. The LA Times' Kevin Thomas said, "The

prestigious, imperious Violet Boudreaux is played by a vivid, shrewd Valerie Swift". "The scene-stealing part of larger-

than-life acting guru Violet Boudreaux, was written with actor Valerie Swift in mind. I knew what she was capable of and

she was definitely my muse for the character of Violet," said director Rick Rose.

Valerie is quite proficient on a number of percussion instruments including Djembe and Doumbek drums and the

crystal singing bowl. Valerie was selected to attend the 7th Annual International Cabaret Conference at Yale University.

Her hard work at Yale paid off and Valerie’s jazz infused cabaret act, SISTER MOON debuted at the Gardenia Room

Supper Club and also at Sheila E’s E Spot Lounge to sold out audiences and rave reviews. Elliot Zwiebach of Cabaret

Scenes said, “A dancer dances, but if the dancer is Valerie Swift Bird, she also sings and bubbles and keeps an audience thoroughly

‘Hollywood’By Kevin Thomas, Special to The Times

“Hollywood” is an awfully big, bold title for yet another low-low budget take on the oft-told tale of a group of young actors trying to make it in Tinseltown. Although this film suffers from familiar fledgling indie ills such as uneven pacing, a verbose script and an overly theatrical quality, it has humor and a personal feel.

It is best viewed as a good showcase for two of its stars, Rick Rose, who also wrote and directed, and Katherine Azarmi, who co-produced the picture with Rose. They are attractive and have engaging personalities.

Rose’s Owen is a tall, easygoing actor whose manager (Tod Purvis) has been unable to “translate indie charm into mainstream success” and insists he take acting lessons. He signs up with the prestigious, imperious Violet Boudreaux (a vivid, shrewd Valerie Swift-Bird), a tough, aging glamour girl, a mixture of pretentiousness and hard-earned wisdom.

Key among Violet’s pupils is another newcomer to the class, Jazzy Zadeh (Azarmi), and Abby Gomez (Martini Paratore), who is also Violet’s dedicated assistant.

Vivacious and ambitious, Jazzy wants to break through in the worst way but finds her ethnicity — she is of Iranian descent — a stumbling

block. Worse, she has fallen under the spell of a self-serving, downright destructive “life coach to the stars” (Jay Rondot), who charts her every move.

Abby, meanwhile, is torn between her acting aspirations and supporting herself as a real estate agent — in addition to working for Violet. (She probably should stick to real estate.) Meanwhile, Owen’s kvetching girlfriend (Tava Smiley) is having serious doubts about casting her lot with an aspiring actor — one who has a tendency to miss important appointments.

This “Hollywood” is indeed slight, yet at times it is amusingly credible, clearly informed by Rose’s own experiences over the last eight years.

Valerie Swift, portrays Jean's friend Franny as a soul at peace with herself, giving us a character who is both wise and possessed of untarnishable joy.
