The Department of Music in College of the Arts seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Voice (Tenor/Baritone/Bass) for the 2017-18 academic year. The position is an academic, tenure-track faculty position. All Valdosta State University faculty share the responsibility of teaching courses at multiple levels as needed in their respective disciplines. To carry out our comprehensive mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to successfully engage students as they launch or continue their intellectual journey. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting and maintaining a high quality studio of undergraduate and graduate voice majors and minors; and instructing vocal pedagogy and vocal methods courses. Other duties may be assigned based on credentials and departmental needs but could include: diction, song literature, and opera. Required qualifications include: • An earned doctorate in music. • Evidence of an active performing schedule. • Evidence of studio teaching experience at the university level. • Evidence of successful recruiting. • Voice area – Tenor, Baritone, or Bass. Preferred qualifications include: • Music education degree. • Teaching experience at the elementary, middle, and/or high school level. • Undergraduate advising experience. • Functional piano skills. Valdosta State University is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, with a faculty of 30 artist teachers and over 160 music majors. The Department of Music presents over 200 musical performances for the public each year. In addition, several of the major performing ensembles of the department travel throughout Georgia, the Southeast, and abroad; performing for schools, civic groups, and as part of community concert series.
