LIMITED ONE YEAR WARRANTY ON GALAXY VACUUM CLEANER

This warranty is for one year from the date of purchase, and includes only private householdvacuum cleaner use. During the warranty year, when this vacuum cleaner is operated andmaintained according to the owner's manual instructions, Sears will repair any defects in materialor workmanship free of charge.

This warranty excludes vacuum bags, belts, light bulbs, and filters, which are expendable partsand become worn during normal use.

For warranty service, return this vacuum cleaner to the nearest Sears Parts and RepairCenter in the United States.

This warranty applies only while this product is in use in the United States.This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary fromstate to state.

Read this manual before assembling or using¢our vacuum cleaner.

Use your cleaner only as described in thismanual. Use only with supplied attachments.To reduce the risk of electric shock- Do notuse outdoors or on wet surfaces.

Do not vacuum up water.

Disconnect electrical supply before servicingor cleaning out brush area. Failure to do socould result in electric shock or brush suddenlystarting.

Always turn cleaner off before connecting ordisconnecting the hose.

Always turn cleaner off before unplugging.

Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug,grasp the plug, not the cord.

Hold plug when rewinding onto cord reel.

Do not allow plug to whip when rewinding.

Do not use with damaged cord or plug. Ifcleaner is not working as it should, has beendropped, damaged, left outdoors, or droppedinto water, return it to a Sears Service Center.

Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as ahandle, close door on cord, or pull cord aroundsharp edges or corners. Do not run cleaner overcord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.

HANDLE ASSEMBLYRemove the screw located just below the topedge of the back of the vacuum.

Position the handle as shown below and slidethe handle into the opening at the top of thevacuum.

Insert the screw so it passes through thehandle into the vacuum.

Tighten the screw securely with a screwdriver.It may be necessary to adjust the handle

slightly.

CAUTIONDo not overtighten,

HOSE ASSEMBLY

After the handle has been assembled, attach thelower hose holder (see below). Insert the upperhose end into the opening on the upright back.Place the hose over the hose holder. Clip thehose into the lower hose holder. Slide and twist

the lower hose end into the hose coupling on thefloor nozzle. Make sure hose is firmly connectedbefore using the vacuum.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1, Turn the quickrelease cord hangerto either side anddown to release the

power cord.

2, Unclip the power cord plug from the powercord and pull the cord off the quick release cordhanger. Check to be sure the power cord is stilllocked into the locking notch. See CORDASSEMBLY.

3, Check to see if the cleaner has baginstalled. See DUST BAG CHANGING.

4, Plug the polarized power cord into a 120Volt electrical outlet.

NOTE: To reducethe risk of electricshock, thisvacuumcleanerhas a polarizedplug, one blade iswider than the other. Thisplug will fit in a polarizedoutlet only one way. If the plugdoes not fit fully inthe outlet, reversethe plug. If it still does not fit,contact a qualified electricianto installthe properoutlet. Do notchange the plugin anyway.

Thisvacuumcleaneris designedwithanAutomaticHeightAdjustmentwhichadjuststhefloor nozzletothe properheightof anycarpetpile.

Theheightoffloor nozzleis instantlyandautomaticallyadjustedwhenyoumovefromonecarpetedareato another.

Release the handle by tilting the handle backand pushing on either front nozzle corner withyour foot.

The vacuumcleaner has threepositions:- Uprightfor storageandwhenusingcleaningtools.

- Angledfor carpetandfloorcleaning.

- Lowfor reachingunderfurniture.

The On/Off switch is located on the vacuumcleaner body just below and to the side of thehandle. Push the switch to ON to start thecleaner and to OFF to stop it.

TO USE ATTACHMENTS

Remove the lower end of the hose from the

cleaner by grasping the hose connector,twisting and pulling straight out.

NOTE: The motor protector may open causingpoor pick up, when using attachments or whencleaning new carpet, due to reduced airflowcaused by the attachments themselves, or bynew carpet fuzz filling the bag quickly. SeeCLOG REMOVAL.

ExtensionWand

Removethe extensionwand fromits storageposition.Removethe crevicetool from its storagepositionin the wand.Remove hose from the floor nozzle and attachthe extension wand. Attach the extension wandonto the open end of the hose.Add the crevice tool to the end of the wand byinserting and twisting slightly. The crevice tooldoubles as a wand extension. The dustingbrush/upholstery tool will fit onto its tip, allowingfor maximum cleaning reach. The brush/tool mayalso be attached directly to the shorter extensionwand.

The dusting brush has two options. When thefront brush is removed the remaining part canbe used as an upholstery tool.

CAUTIONWhen using attachments, be carefulnot to overextend the hose whenreaching. Trying to reach beyond thehose stretch capability could causethe cleaner to tip over.

TO STORE ATTACHMENTS

Remove dusting brush/upholstery tool fromwand. Snap into its storage location.

Remove crevice tool from the wand by twisting.Remove the short extension wand from the hose

by twistingthe wand and pulling it from the hose end.

Placethe crevicetool downinto the short extensionwand. Snap wand into its storage location.

Be sure the unit is turned off. Reinsert the hosefully into hose coupling from which it wasremoved. Press firmly to assure connection.

DO NOT place hands or feetunderneath the unit when inserting thehose. The agitator revolves rapidlywhen the vacuum is turned on.

E-Z BELT CHECK

Turn off and unplug the unit. The E-Z BeltCheck consists of two latches on the top of thefloor nozzle. These latches allow for easyremoval of the nozzle cover to change the beltor clean the agitator.

Place thumbs on latches, push outward, andraise cover.

To replace nozzle cover, insert tabs into slots,lower cover onto nozzle, and push latches in tosecure.

MOTOR PROTECTIONSYSTEM

This vacuum has a motor protector by-passvalve which automatically opens to providecooling air to the motor when a clog preventsthe normal flow of air to the motor. If the by-pass valve opens to prevent motor overheatingand possible damage to the vacuum, you willnotice a change of sound as air rushes throughthe valve opening.

Gather the cord and wrap it loosely around thequick release cord hanger and lower cordhanger.

Wrapping the cord too tightly putsstress on the cord and can causecord damage. A damaged cord is anelectric shock hazard and couldcause personal injury or damage.

Unplug cord from wall outlet. DO NOTdrip water on cleaner.

Clean exterior using a clean, soft cloth that hasbeen dipped in a solution of mild liquiddetergent and water, then wrung dry. Wipe dryafter cleaning.

Wash attachments in warm soapy water, rinseand air dry. Do not clean in dishwasher.

CAUTIONDo not use attachments if they arewet. Attachments used in dirty areas,such as under a refrigerator, shouldnot be used on other surfaces until

they are washed. They could leavemarks.

CAUTIONNEVER REUSE A DUST BAG. Veryfine materials, such as carpetfreshener, face powder, fine dust,plaster, soot, etc. can clog the bagand cause it to burst before it is full.

Change bag more often whenvacuuming these materials.

Unfold the new dust bag.

Be sure bottom of dust bag is completely withindust bag cavity prior to replacing the dustcover.

Check motor safety filter frequently.

If the motor safety filter, located in the bottom ofthe dust bag cavity is dirty, remove it by pullingforward out from under the ribs.

Wash the foam filter in warm soapy water.Rinse and dry thoroughly by squeezing the filterin your hand and letting it air dry.

DO NOT wash filter in the dishwasher.

DO NOT install damp filter.

Replace the foam filter by sliding it back intoplace under the ribs in the dust bag cavity.

WARNINGElectric Shock Hazard

Do not operate the cleaner withoutthe motor safety filter. Be sure thefilter is dry and properly installed toprevent motor failure and/or electricshock.

Always unplug power cord fromelectrical outlet before performingany service on vacuum.

WARNING

Do not operate without exhaust filter.

Clean the exhaust filter when it becomes dirty,or replace it with a new one. Wash the dirtyfilter beneath cold, running water to clean it.Allow to air dry before returning it to thevacuum.

Do not attempt to clean the filter with a brush.A brush will permanently damage the filter,causing dust to blow back into the room whenyou are vacuuming.

If you use vacuum frequently, you shouldreplace the filter every 6 months.

Pull the dust cover forward. Remove and layaside.

Remove the exhaust filter by pulling it out.

Replace the filter so that the gray side facesout.

Carefully replace the dust cover by placing tabsin slots and pushing in until cover snaps intoplace.

Frequently check and remove hair, string andlint build-up in the agitator brusharea. If build-upbecomes excessive, follow the steps below.

Slide E-Z BeltCheck latchesoutward andremove nozzlecover.

Disconnect power cord from electrical outlet.Latches

Position hands on the agitator. If the belt is stillattached to the agitator, sever with scissors andremove it. Carefully lift the right end of theagitator and then the left end.

Note: It may be necessary to pull on the edgeof the bumper to allow the ends of the agitatorto be removed easily.

WARNINGPersonal Injury Hazard

Be careful when removing theagitator as the belt tension is high.Failure to do 8o could result in

personal injury from the agitatorreleasing quickly and snapping away.

TO CLEAN AGITATOR

Note: In order to keep cleaning efficiency highand to prevent damage to your vacuum, theagitator must be cleaned every time the belt ischanged.

The agitator must be cleaned according to thefollowing schedule:

Vacuum Use Clean Agitator

HEAVY every week(used daily)

MODERATE every month(used 2-3 times/week)

LIGHT every 2 months(used 1 time/week)

CAUTION

Do not disassemble the end cap,

or you will damage the agitator.

TO REPLACE BELTLoop the new belt on the motor shaft.

Loop the other end of the belt on the belt pulleyon the agitator.

Insert the left end cap, arrow down, into its slotin the nozzle base. Pull the agitator forward andinsert the right end cap, arrow down, into its slotin the nozzle base.

Note: Care must be taken due to the belttension during reassembly.

Press firmly, checking to see that each end iscompletely inserted.

Check to see that the belt is centered on thebelt pulley. Turn the agitator with your fingers tosee that it turns freely.

Replace the nozzle cover and secure thelatches.

TO CHECK AGITATORTurn the vacuum over to check for worn agitatorbrushes. When brushes are worn to the level of

the base plate belt guard, replace the agitator.

TO REPLACE AGITATORRemove the nozzle cover and agitator. SeeBELT CHANGING AND AGITATORCLEANING.

Replace agitator with a new one.

If the bag and filter areas are free of clogs,check the hose area. Remove the lower end ofthe hose from the cleaner by grasping the hoseconnector, twisting, and pulling straight out.

Plug in the vacuumand turn it on.

Stretch the hose tomaximum lengthand then allow thehose to return to itsstorage length.

Return the cleaner to the upright position beforeplugging into an electrical outlet.

COMPROBACION DE LACORREA E-Z

En la comprobaci6n de la correa E-Z ubicadaen la parte superior de la boquilla para el suelo,hay dos cierres para extraer con facilidad lacubierta de la boquilla para cambiar la correa olimpiar el agitador. Coloque los dedos gordossobre los cierres, deslfcelos hacia fuera y elevela cubierta.

Introduzca las pesta_as en las ranuras, baje lacubierta de la boquilla y deslice nuevamentelos cierres de forma segura para sustituir lacubierta de la boquilla.

SISTEMA DEPROTECCION DEL MOTOR

Laaspiradora cuenta con una v_.lvuladederivaci6n del protector del motor que se abreautom_.ticamente para que entre aire frfo almotor si hay obstrucciones que eviten el flujonormal de aire hacia el motor. Si la valvula dederivaci6n se abre para que el motor no sesobrecaliente y la aspiradora pueda sufrirdahos, notara que el sonido cambia cuando elaire pasa por la apertura de la v_.lvula.
