RECYCLED & WHITE TILE INSTALLATION

Note to Homeowners

We always encourage a professional to perform your

installation to ensure the longevity of your tile. If you’re

confident in your DIY skills, go for it! But when in

doubt, don’t hesitate to contact your Design Consultant

if you have any questions along the way. Please

keep in mind that this guide is simply an overview of

installation suggestions and precautions. It should not

be treated as a step-by-step installation guide. When

handling installation materials, always closely follow

manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

Prior to making your order, make sure your application

suits the tile body or glaze for wet or outdoor areas.

For wet areas such as a pools, kitchens, or bathrooms,

be sure the glaze is suitable and acid resistant (see our

Tile Spec Sheet for a detailed list of each glaze’s acid

sensitivity). Also keep in mind that our ceramic tiles are

frost resistant, but not frost proof.

INSTALLATION PREP

Given the handmade nature of our tile, there will be some color, size, and thickness variation. Typical grout spacing is 3/16” for non-rectified tile, and 1/8” for rectified. Size variation is accentuated by grout spacing. Carefully consider grout spacing prior to installation. Be sure to lay out tiles and pull from different boxes to achieve the best overall blend of color. Once installed, claims regarding the color will not be honored.

CUTTING/DRILLING

Recommended Tools: - Diamond Blade Wet Tile Saw for cutting - Diamond Bit with Water for drilling

• A new tile blade will make a cleaner cut than anoverused blade.

• Stone or sand edges after cutting.

• Use cut edges against the outside walls or ceilingwhere they are hidden.

• Make sure the faucet flange covers any chipping onthe edges of the cutout.

• Dry tiles after cutting before applying silicone.

SETTING

• The appropriate setting should be determined ona case-by-case basis. Consult with your installer,contractor, or architect.

GROUT

Recommended Tools: - Sanded grout with a 3/16” grout joint (1⁄4” for 12” modules)

- Grout haze removal: Equal parts water and vinegar solution + a soft rag OR manufactured grout haze removing cleaner

• We recommend a grout release to ease cleaning afterinstallation and to prevent staining from dark coloredgrout.

• Dark grouts with pigments can stain the tile and ifpreferred, should be pretested for staining.

• A grout release on all unglazed tile installation isnecessary.

SPACING

Recommended Tools: - Tile Spacers

• Tighter grout joints will require a professional. If thegrout line is too tight the tile could chip at stresspoints while the grout dries.

CARE

Recommended Tools: - Everyday cleaning: Mild dishwashing soap and water + clean rag or mop OR any cleaning product specified for tile

• For any cleaning product, test a small amount on yourtile to make sure it doesn’t affect the glaze.

• Use cleaning products that don’t contain phosphoricacid. Avoid cleansers that contain acids such asvinegar or lemon juice.

• Immediately clean any spills or stains.

RECYCLED & WHITE TILESPECIFICATIONS

Two different clay bodies are offered at V23. Recycled (red) clay body, and White clay body. Recycled body tile is handmade with over 70% recycled content in Aromas, CA and qualifies for numerous LEED points. White body tile is made of locally sourced materials and handmade in Aromas, CA. The two clay bodies cannot be mixed in the same installation. As with all handmade tile, some degree of variation is expected in all colors.

• Available in over 100 beautiful, finely crafted glaze colors. All glazesare designed and hand-mixed using all natural, lead-free ingredients.Natural variation is inherent in glaze color, texture and finish dependingon the specific color. Individual color variation is graded V1 (least) toV4 (most). Colors are available in either a gloss or matte finish. Note:Please see Color Guide for the full list of colors and finishes. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN | LEED CREDITS

• V23 packs materials in recycled cardboard boxes and on recycled pallets or crates. We use recycled sawdust, biodegradable peanuts, or other recycled materials for protection.

• The Recycled clay body may qualify for MR 4.1/4.2: Recycled Content(1–2 points), MR 5.1/5.2: Regional Materials (2 points), EQ 4.2: Low-Emitting Materials (1 point).

• Over 70% of the Recycled clay body tile is made from recycled products including post-consumer recycled porcelain and glass, pre-consumer recycled granite dust. In addition, V23 recycled our own tile and glaze waste and re-incorporates it into the recycled body. In addition, almost all materials are locally sourced and glaze materials are 100%lead free.

MANUFACTURING INFORMATION

• V23 ceramic tile is 100% manufactured by our expert team of ceramicists in Aromas, CA 95004. We repurpose old discarded tile, recycle waste water and glaze materials, and manufacture in our day-lit, open-air factory. All material is 100% made in the USA.

INSTALLATION

• Please contact your sales associate for detailed instructions.• Use a natural color sanded grout and avoid dark grouts. For grout

joints we recommend 3⁄16" (1⁄4" for 12" modules). Note: Smaller joints are possible.

• Sealing is not necessary unless it is a non-acid resistant color in an areasuch as a bathroom or pool to prevent a patina from forming on the tile. It is always a good idea to seal your grout to ward off staining and discoloration.
