Yet again, the denim industry professionals at the last edition of denim by PV did
not let us down, sporting a whole host of fresh styles that look set to take the high
street by storm this winter. Aside from the important wash stories of authentic look-
ing vintage, mottled and marbled effects and the deep dark story of raw heavy
weights, this issue we concentrate on the details. When is a five-pocket jean, not
a five-pocket jean? The answer? When it’s been given a little special something to
elevate it from the pack.
SPLATTEREDWhether you want the all-over ‘painter-by-trade’ splatter effect or the ‘I occasionally decorate’ light smattering, bleach out or paint on vintage washed fabrics. This look has been bubbling under the surface for a few seasons, but we think the time is now.

CREASEDFrom subtle and natural to extreme and placed, the humble crease seems to have a life of its own this season. Use creases to add colour contrasts to vintage bases and textural dimen-sions to raw.

TURNED UP & TUCKED INWith so many big boots on the horizon, it’s no real surprise to imagine many jeans turned-up, tucked-in or both. Attitude styling and great footwear is what makes all the difference, with or without a selvedge edge.

NEW COLOURSWe just love these two fresh colours for the season ahead. Intense indigo and warm ginger may stand strong on their own, but we say mix them together in an outfit and they’ll look even better!
1. Rozemarijn Dijkstra / Denim Designer / Maison Scotch, Scotch & Soda / Jeans brand: Customized vintage Scotch & Soda / Age: new.2. Ilkin Çökmez / Designer / Erak / Jeans brand: Own sample (garment dyed) / Age: 1 month.

FRESH FABRICSPattern appearing from beneath, graphics boldly overlaid and worn in, dirty leather effect coatings may be three completely contrasting approaches, but they all succeed in making denim different.

CHAIN UPIt’s hard to say if accessorising your favourite jeans with a chain ever really comes in or goes out of fashion, as you either like it or you don’t. But, to become part of the chain gang this season, mix up scale, go simple or multi-layer and add a slogan pendant or two.

TIGHTEN UPNot denim as such, but a strong casual look. Be it strapped and buckled, bound or buttoned, it’s time to tighten up from knee to toe and show off those calf shapes to the max.
1. François Girbaud / Owner & Designer / Marithé + François Girbaud / Pants brand: Marithé + François Girbaud / Age: 6 years.2. Didier Allemand / Designer / Okaidi / Vintage Military Pants / Age: 7 years.

POCKETSWe all know when it comes down to making denim different, it’s all in the detail, so this issue we highlight our favourite pocket executions to inspire. Twist, dart, toughen up, rescale, rip apart, add-on or rethink completely to give that special something else.
