CARIBBEAN MISSION PARTNERSHIP
The Rev’d Otto Wade Meets With
Mission Partners from New York The Rev’d Otto Wade, Connexional President of the Methodist
Conference of the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA) agreed to
convene a meeting of delegates of the New York Annual Conference’s
Caribbean Mission Partnership and officers of the MCCA at the Belmont
Headquarters in Antigua, March 27 to 28, 2014
The Caribbean Mission Partnership was formed in December of 2013 by
Pastors in the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist
Church from various Caribbean Territories and seeks to forge closer ties
between the “People called Methodists” in the New York – Connecticut
area and those in the MCCA.
While in Antigua, the birthplace of Caribbean Methodism (1760), the
group took the opportunity to tour the historic Gilbert Estate, where
Nathaniel Gilbert having been converted under Wesley’s preaching in
1759 introduced Methodism to Antigua and to the Caribbean. The
original steps from which he preached are still there. The Centre is in
need of major renovation and is listed as 3020603- New Nathaniel
Gilbert Initiative in the Advance Special of the General Board of
Global Ministries.
We also visited the Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development Centre
(GARDC), a project which was started by the MCCA out of the Gilbert
Ecumenical Centre and using lands of the Gilbert Estate almost 25 years
ago. We have a short CD which we can make available to you. This
project is listed in the Advance Specials as 401420- GARDC. As such
various congregations of the UMC are able to participate in the
redevelopment of the Gilbert Center for conferences and special training
programs and to the work or GARDC.

PURPOSE OF UNITED METHODIST
VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION (UMVIM)
The United Methodist Volunteers in
Mission is to enable the participation of
Methodists throughout the world in global
mission volunteer programs so that
affirming, empowering, and trusting
relationships would be established.
UMVIM prepares to send and receive those
who want to make the love of God visible,
meaningful, supportive, and redemptive.
The UMVIM motto, “Christian Love in
Action”, is taken from 1 John 3:18, in which
Christians are asked to love “not in word or
speech, but in truth and action.” Living our
faith is at the very heart of our Christian
calling and reflects the purpose that has
grown out of our understanding of who we
are and what we want to be: those who
express “Christian Love in Action.”
