In keeping with the usual fantasy action style, The supervillian Blofeld has his owngigantic lair. The Villains Lair is iconic in this film. It is an oversized, cartoon like volcanolair which seems to engulf the characters within it. Blofelds volcanic headquarters is the

definitive supervillain lair: a secretunderground nest buzzing with

boilersuited paramilitary activityand the thrum ofmonorails. (Sketchfield, 2012) Itcan even fit a rocket within it. Theclimax takes place here, andthroughout the film Bond tries tofind a way inside the secrethideout.

The Lair itself was a challenge forthe filmmakers. The set of the lairwas built on Pinewood Studiosand cost just over$1million. (Abbot, 2012) It seemsit was worth the risk, as thelocation is one of the most iconicand largest sets shown in a Bondfilm. It gives and incredible scaleto the film and it isnt doneenough these days. (Abbot,2012)

The gadgets in Bond Movies arealways impressive and creative intheir design. It was as if thedirector had gone over every lineof the script with a designengineer at his elbow and lovinglyworked all the functions of the gadgetry into all thefolds of the plot so that everything held together in a subtle way.

All in all You Only Live Twice is a highly exaggerated film with a grand scale in terms of

locations and visuals, with many memorable scenes within.
