A few weeks ago we had finished our series on sharing your faith. I had a challenge for you to pray for a person that needs to meet Jesus face to face. Then I asked you to pray that God would open a door for you to talk with them about your relationship with Christ and then pray that God would give you the boldness to challenge them to come to church and hear a message on Jesus and see what God will do.

Some of you did that and we have had many visitors. That challenge is still ongoing. Let us do our part and give God an opportunity to do something special through you. Remember this: “What I possess in my heart I will share with the world.” Two weeks ago we started a series on Jesus being a man full of truth and grace-how He helped a brokenhearted sinner found in Luke 7:37-50. It all started when Jesus was invited to a Pharisees home for dinner by the name of Simon. Now Simon had also invited some of his friends most likely to make a fool of Jesus and to trap Him into saying or doing something against the Law. But this sinful woman shows up and sets the scene for Jesus to allow these Pharisees to make themselves look like a bunch of ignorant legalistic heartless religious leaders. They did a good job of accomplishing that and while that was going down, Jesus shows compassion towards this woman who had just broke down in the presence of holiness. She did everything for Jesus that Simon the host, did not. She loved much and Simon loved little because he was more concerned with the Law rather than a spiritual need. Then the next scene we see Jesus showing grace and truth towards this man that was a tortured loner found in Luke 8:26-39. This man was possessed by many demons that tormented him while he tormented his community. Jesus saw a man that was physically deprived, spiritually defiant, despised socially, and emotionally disturbed. That is how the disciples saw it too. Now Jesus was not only trying to meet the needs of this man but trying to teach His disciples on how to minister to the outcast. They were afraid, saw a menace to society, and simply didn’t know what to do, like many of us today when we encounter individuals like this. But notice what Jesus did here: He simply asked what his name was. Jesus didn’t coward. He met the man head on and took care of his physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Church, how are we doing in these areas of our lives? Do we look and act like Jesus did when He faced the outcast? If not let’s begin to and we’ll see how that looks like Easter Sunday. Saved to Serve, Tim

99 THOUGHTS FOR PARENTS OF TEENAGERS THE TRUTH ON RAISING TEENAGERS FROM PARENTS WHO HAVE

BEEN THERE By Walt Mueller

TEENAGERS NEED PARENTS WHO COMMUNICATE A GOD-HONORING BODY IMAGE PERSPECTIVE

In today’s appearance-oriented world, chances are good that our children won’t get the right body-image perspective anywhere else. Of course, gaining the right perspective begins by showering your children with love and acceptance that isn’t conditional on what they look like. It continues by carefully watching what we say to them regarding their appearance. Have you ever caught yourself criticizing them about their weight, body shape, or complexion? Those words not only hurt, but they affirm a faulty notion that “I am what I look like.” In today’s world, these words are especially hurtful. Instead, we should take the time to teach about the inward qualities of a Christ-like life, something that is most powerfully taught through our words and example. Be sure your example includes responsible stewardship and care of your own body. Be sure your example doesn’t include an unhealthy obsession with your own appearance. Prayerfully work to develop your own inward character in a God-honoring direction. Your children need to know that while people may emphasize the outward appearance, God is concerned with the development of their hearts (see 1 Samuel 16:7 for God’s perspective).

OUR NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL DIRECTION: Elementary and Middle School Students This three-year Sunday school program covers the entire Bible in chronological order. It provides answers to the issues that confront today’s culture through the media, school, friends, etc. ABC provides a thorough understanding of the authority and primary teachings of Scripture. Our elementary and middle school student will be equipped to defend the Bible, and become conformed to the image of Christ, as they apply God’s Word in their everyday lives. Key Concepts The Bible is Trustworthy - We can trust all of God’s Word. God’s Attributes - God’s attributes are displayed throughout the Bible. Chronological/Historical Teaching - The Bible presents true history, not just “stories.” The Bible’s Redemption - God’s plan of redemption is woven throughout Scripture. Apologetics - We must be ready to give an answer for what we believe. Life Application - We are to live in light of what the Bible teaches. It’s a deeper tract to develop deeper students. Get them plugged in.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SERIES: Star ng Wednesday, April 24, 2013 One of the hardest lessons in life is learning how to deal with regret. And one of the most valuable lessons is learning how to avoid it altogether. In every choice our students make, they have the power to walk down two roads: I wish I had or I’m glad I did. And when they understand that God will be with them in the midst of every decision they make, every moment of pressure they feel and even those mes when they don’t make the best decision and have to deal with the s ng of regret, they can walk through life with courage and discover who God has created them to be. Session One: Get Smart Bo om Line: Obeying Jesus isn’t just spiritual—it’s smart. We all have regrets—decisions we wish we could take back. And some mes we get the chance to realize the benefits of a good decision. So what makes the difference between the two? And what does Jesus have to say that can help us have less “I wish I had” moments and more “I’m glad I did” ones? Session Two: Are You Listening? Bo om Line: When you listen to wise people, you live wisely. Last week we learned that following Jesus’ words is more than just spiritual, it’s smart. But how do we actually live those words out? Maybe the secret ingredient to living a life with more “I’m glad I did” moments is less about us and more about listening—to other people. Because when we listen, we learn. And when we listen to wise people, we learn to live wisely. Session Three: An Ounce of Courage Bo om Line: Fear blocks what God wants. Fear is a game-changer. It can stop us dead in our tracks and keep us from missing out on all God has in store for us. But when we trust God to take care of us, fear won’t have the chance to stop us from experiencing more I’m glad I did moments. So what do we need to find the courage to keep moving forward? And where are the places that we need that courage today?
