New Exhibits at the Centre
Permanent Displays
Staff will be using the 2016 season to refresh and enhance a number of exhibits in the Carmody House a
he Scott Township Municipal Hall as part of an ongoing effort to enhance visitor experience at the CentreWe are excited to ‘change up’ these exhibits as it allows us to bring items out of storage that may not hav
been seen by the public for a while. The Museum’s collection grows each year as we accept donations of
artifacts, archival materials and photographs that preserve our important local history. We take any oppor
unity to showcase our history through permanent and special displays.
f you visited us last year, you may have noticed that a number of the museum’s heritage buildings acqu
new information panels recounting the building’s history. We will be designing new information panels for
he remaining buildings this year.
We will keep you updated on these projects through the e -newsletter, and hope to see you at the Centre

Uxbridge Dog Park
If you’ve driven past the Historical Centre lately, you may have noticed the ogoing construction on the new Fire Hall (along Brock St.) and the work beidone in the field south of the Museum site (at the corner of Con. 6 and BroStreet). This is the site for the new Uxbridge Dog Park, a large fenced -in arwhere our 4-legged friends can roam and play off -leash. The latest news is ththe Dog Park is due to open in the Fall.
Has it really been 45 years?
On April 6, 1971, a dedicated group of history-minded individuals concerned about preserving thheritage of Uxbridge Township came together to form the first board of the Uxbridge -Scott Historcal Society. By the next month they were negotiating to establish the Quaker Hill School as the sof a museum.
he Uxbridge-Scott Museum was officially opened on May 27 th, 1972. From one building and a small colle
on of artifacts, the Uxbridge Historical Centre, as it is now known, has grown to ten buildings and a hugeollection of artifacts and archival materials, most donated by the local community. Such an achievementould not have been possible without the effort and support of a huge number of volunteers, and a suppore Town Council and local community. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who mad
his museum a reality and continue to help keep the history of Uxbridge Township alive for present and fu-ure generations.
Start Your ‘Uxbridge Geocaching Treasure Quest’ at Uxbridge Historical Centre
As part of Uxbridge’s Healthy Kids’ Community Challenge Initiatives, your family c
take part in a Geocaching treasure quest to earn a collectible Trail Capital of Ca
da geo-coin. Stop by the Historical Centre to pick up your passport and instructio
and, in case you don’t own your own GPS unit or smartphone, you can borrow
GPS unit from the Centre.
What is Geocaching? Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS
-enab
devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then search for the geocac
(container) hidden at that location. A cache always contains a logbook or log sheet for you to log your fin
and may contain “treasures” that you can take, as long as you leave something of equal value behind
he next finder. Geocaching is a great activity for all ages!

Our Condolences
We were very sad to hear of the passing of Elsie Wood, a much loved Uxbridge resident, tireless volunteer fo
many community organizations, and a long serving Historical Society Board member. Elsie and her late hus-
band Bill Wood were involved with the establishment of the museum and active volunteers at the Centre
throughout the years. Our condolences to Elsie’s family and friends – she will be greatly missed.
