2018 Australia Day Events Australia Day ClosuresCouncil wishes to advise that our Crookwell and Gunning Administration Offices and Depots and the TaralgaCommunity Service Centre will be closed for the AustraliaDay public holiday on Friday, 26 January 2018 and willreopen on Monday, 29 January 2018.The Crookwell Visitor Information Centre and Crookwell andGunning Libraries will also be closed on Friday, 26 January2018 and will reopen at 10.00am on Saturday, 27 January2018.Crookwell and Gunning Swimming Pools will remain openon Australia Day.Crookwell Tip will be closed on Australia Day and reopen onSaturday, 27 January 2018. All other waste facilities do notopen on Fridays. Make Pool Safety a PriorityShire residents are being urged to ensure their swimmingpools meet current pool fencing requirements.While pool fencing requirements vary depending on whenthe pool was built and where the pool is located, all poolowners in NSW – including owners of inflatable andportable swimming pools – must ensure their pools comply with fencing laws.Everyone with a swimming pool is encouraged to visit theNSW Fair Trading website* to ensure their swimming poolmeets the current pool fencing requirements.In addition to ensuring that fencing meets current poolfencing requirements, swimming pool owners shouldalways remember to:• Check your pool fence throughout the year, especially in the months leading up to summer;• Ensure children have constant adult supervision within arms reach;• Ensure members of the household learn Infant CPR;• Familiarise children with water and teach them to swim, but never assume that they are not likely to drown.In the case of inflatable or portable pools that can holdmore than 30cm of water, a compliant four-sided fencemust be installed to ensure safety. Mail Theft at TaralgaUpper Lachlan Shire Council is urging the Taralga community to be vigilant in response to mail theft and tampering in the village.Council is advised by Australia Post that there have beenseveral reports of mail theft and tampering since 13December 2017. Police have been notified and are makinginquiries.Anyone with information is urged to contact SeniorConstable Brad Jones on 0408 562 049 (please note, forurgent police matters phone 000).To reduce the risk of falling victim to mail theft and tampering, residents are encouraged to:• regularly clear their letterbox to ensure items can be fully and securely inserted into the box; and• secure their letterbox with a sturdy lock.Mail that is tampered with or goes missing from a resident'sletterbox after it has been delivered is a criminal matter andcustomers should immediately report the theft to the police.
