Thursday, 25 January 2018 2018 Australia Day Events Australia Day Closures Council wishes to advise that our Crookwell and Gunning Administration Offices and Depots and the Taralga Community Service Centre will be closed for the Australia Day public holiday on Friday, 26 January 2018 and will reopen on Monday, 29 January 2018. The Crookwell Visitor Information Centre and Crookwell and Gunning Libraries will also be closed on Friday, 26 January 2018 and will reopen at 10.00am on Saturday, 27 January 2018. Crookwell and Gunning Swimming Pools will remain open on Australia Day. Crookwell Tip will be closed on Australia Day and reopen on Saturday, 27 January 2018. All other waste facilities do not open on Fridays. There are no kerbside waste and recycling services scheduled on Friday, 26 January 2018. While pool fencing requirements vary depending on when the pool was built and where the pool is located, all pool owners in NSW – including owners of inflatable and portable swimming pools – must ensure their pools comply with fencing laws. Everyone with a swimming pool is encouraged to visit the NSW Fair Trading website* to ensure their swimming pool meets the current pool fencing requirements. In addition to ensuring that fencing meets current pool fencing requirements, swimming pool owners should always remember to: • Check your pool fence throughout the year, especially in the months leading up to summer; • Ensure children have constant adult supervision within arms reach; • Ensure members of the household learn Infant CPR; • Familiarise children with water and teach them to swim, but never assume that they are not likely to drown. In the case of inflatable or portable pools that can hold more than 30cm of water, a compliant four-sided fence must be installed to ensure safety. For inflatable or portable pools that can hold less than 30cm of water, owners should always empty and store away the pool when not in use. Council is advised by Australia Post that there have been several reports of mail theft and tampering since 13 December 2017. Police have been notified and are making inquiries. Anyone with information is urged to contact Senior Constable Brad Jones on 0408 562 049 (please note, for urgent police matters phone 000). To reduce the risk of falling victim to mail theft and tampering, residents are encouraged to: • regularly clear their letterbox to ensure items can be fully and securely inserted into the box; and • secure their letterbox with a sturdy lock. Mail that is tampered with or goes missing from a resident's letterbox after it has been delivered is a criminal matter and customers should immediately report the theft to the police.
