When I was a kid…..

Then I had to get...

Or a kid in school could...

Kids today don’t play with Rubik’s Cube.

The kids are alright.

Paedophobia

Fear of Children

Why are we afraid of the generation that

follows our own?1. Old people are sometimes jerks.

2. Young people are usually stupid, reckless, and full of

energy This really pisses off the old people, even the ones

that aren’t jerks.

3. All of us are nostalgic. We miss the “good old days”.

Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr.

BUZZ Aldrin

Born: January 20, 1930

Marion Moon

BUZZ Aldrin’s Mom

Born: November 16, 1903

Marion Moon

Born: November 16, 1903

One month later.

December 17, 1903

Marion Moon

Married Edwin Aldrin, Sr.

In one generation, Marion Moon saw...

Man fly for the first time.

The invention of the car.

Affordable electricity.

The creation of the computer.

Televisions in middle class homes.

Her own son fly and walk in space.

The computer power housed in the

lunar lander now exceeded by the

processing power that goes into

the smartphones in our pockets.

In his own generation, Buzz Aldrin has seen...

exponential

increase in the

pace of change

What advances will our children witness?

Marion Moon passed away

a little more than a year

before Buzz left for the

moon on Apollo 11.

Born: November 16, 1903

Died: May 24, 1968

Surprisingly, Aldrin's reservations about describing what it's like to kick up moon dust for an hour and a half, as he did on July 20, 1969, are in marked contrast to his willingness to discuss – free of charge – the dark side of his life: his struggles with depression and alcoholism, his two failed marriages, his difficult relationship with his father, and the tragedy of his mother (born Marion Moon), who killed herself shortly before the lunar mission because she did not think she could handle her son's imminent fame.

600 Million people watched the

Apollo 11 Moon Landing live on

TV on July 20, 1969

What does it mean to be connected?

Do we feel happy when we are

“connected”?

Why do advances in civilization

seem to be making us less happy?

Are any of us really prepared to be

“connected”?

TRIBE: On Homecoming and Belonging

Self Determination Theory

Human beings need three

basic things in order to be

content:

1.They need to feel competent at what they do.

2. They need to feel authentic in their lives.

3. They need to feel connected to others.

We have evolved as human beings.

Have we devolved as a culture?

Are any of us prepared be part of a tribe of 320

million people? (U.S. Population)

Is it possible to live in a tribe of 300+ Million?

Is it possible to “connect” in a tribe this large?

Our Contemporary Constantly Connected Generationmay have found a new definition of “tribe”.

Why Is Laila Using Instagram?

Why Is Jaik Using YouTube?

generation

We don’t have a constantly connected generation.

Constantly online

doesn’t mean

“connected”.

We have a new generation growing up in a

world that is changing at an ever increasing

rate, and has developed a culture that expects

everyone to be connected, constantly.

How do we meet the needs of a constantly

connected generation?

How do we teach this new

generation to connect in this

constantly online world?
