USSD Center is a USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Services Data) solution that

enhances and broadens the business possibilities of mobile telephony operators,

offering numerous interactive communication applications through GSM´s USSD

messages.

USSD Center Architecture4.

USSD Center has been designed on the bases of an open, modular, scalable, flexible

and viewable architecture. It´s redundant, taking into consideration hardware and

software fault tolerance as well as eventual contingencies between sites in order to

guarantee the service.

Solution´s domain.4.1

USSD is the capacity to transport information through GSM network´s signaling

channels.

USSD Center implements the modules needed by the operator in order to rapidly

provide new interactive data services using its existing network.

Interaction with external systems4.2

USSD Center provides Web Services open interfaces and SMPP protocol for connection

with external applications.

Through the APIs, the system gains access to operator´s platforms -Legacy Systems- to

perform consultation or data modification transactions.

USSD Center Architecture

USSD Center includes the following functional modules:

USSD Gateway ¢ : it drives the SS7 interface to the GSM/UMTS network and

translates the messages into IP format (SMPP or Web Services). It is the link

between the GSM network and the service applications and portals. It has

compatibility with USSD Phase 1 and Phase 2, and bears Push and Pull services.

It provides a mechanism for the flexible routing of messages to the corresponding

applications.

Application Server (SLEE) ¢ : it is a USSD based services portal that communicates

with USSD Gateway and external applications utilizing SMPP for the first

and Web Services for the second. It provides the environment for the services

execution logic. It includes the Service Creation Environment (SCE).

SCE £ : it is a graphic tool that defines the flow of services by giving the

possibility to create new applications or modify existing ones in a practical

way.

USSD Back End ¢ : contains the Database for the storage of all information on

configuration, services and messages´ details. It also provides the interfaces

needed for USSD Gateway and Application Server.

USSD Client Custom Interface ¢ : it is a module developed for each operator. It

allows the implementation of an interface between the applications developed on

the USSD Center platform and the operator´s systems. It exposes Web Services

to the platform and executes the necessary protocols in order to gain access to the

Legacy Systems.

Administrative Web Console ¢ : it is a web interface for the configuration of

services, reports, system security and platform generalities.

Export ¢ : allows the delivery of the information generated by the system´s modules

to the external systems.

Security ¢ : implements the logic for the management of actions, profiles and

subscribers. It is composed of a group of Stored Procedures kept on the Database.

Events ¢ : enables the management of events and alarms, allowing the monitoring of

the system´s different components with notices for the operator.

Reports ¢ : allows the administration of automatic reports, including e-mail result

delivery and the possibility to asscociate a calendar and addressees groups.

Monitoring and control 5.3

Administrative Web Console: ¢ allows the observation of events and recognition of

alarms through the USSD Center monitoring.

Real Time Monitor ¢ : allows real time

monitoring of all system´s components

through graphs that facilitate the

functioning supervision and fault

detection. The alarm system is included

within the monitor´s functionalities.

SNMP ¢ : provides information on the status

of each of the USSD Center´s modules,

which report the information and generate

the traps selected for monitoring by the

registered SNMP clients. SNMP support

for determined hardware and Database

components is included as well.
