If you want to practise medicine in the US:

The Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) exam is a “hands-on” exam that tests the examinee’s clinical and communication skills through his/her ability to gather information from standardised patients, perform a physical examination, communicate the findings to the patient and write a patient note.

Step 3 assesses the examinee’s ability to apply medical knowledge and the understanding of biomedical and clinical science essential for the unsupervised practice of medicine, with emphasis on patient management in independent settings. This exam is taken during the Match application season.

Go on to study at Kaplan Medical US: Step 2CS and Step 3 (6 months)3

Most hospitals select residency candidates from applicants who participate in the “Match.” This system of matching candidates to residency training positions allows you to interview and rank preferences, while simultaneously allowing the hospitals to rank those they have interviewed. The preference lists are merged by computer at the National Resident Matching Programme (NRMP, www.nrmp.org). Results are announced annually in March.

Generally, programmes look for USMLE scores above 225, the higher the better. They also prefer US hospital experience and letters of recommendation from physicians with whom you have worked. A personal statement outlining goals, reasons for entering the profession, and special interests is also required. Plan ahead to ensure that you are able to meet the various Match deadlines.
