Operation instruction about using HyperTerminal tool to change MTK GPS setting

(O.S : WinXP) 1. Please execute HyperTerminal tool to open a window , for example : “Test “

2. Choose the link port which the GPS device link to your PC, the example use COM 15




Notice: before you choose the com port, please check the com port used by the GPS device, you can find the status in “Device Manager “Page. in WinXP.




Please set the baud rate of the device (ex: 38400bps, please check the device spec) and no bit flow control




3. After success connect with GPS device, the NMEA message will be showed on the

window, please choose “File” “Properties “




4. Please choose “Settings“page, and click “ASCII Setup” to check the ASCII sending setting and confirm.




5. Please use “notepad “to edit your GPS command, for example $PMTK314,0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0*29<CR><LF>

The command will only show “$GPRMC” item of NMEA. Please notice that you

don’t need to type the string “<CR>” and <LF>”, just need to press “Enter” as packet end. The “<CR>” and”<LF” are used to identify the end of a packet. We save the file as “b.txt”.




6. Please choose “Transfer “ ”Send Text File “, the pop up window will request the file you want to transfer to GPS device.




7. The window will show the result if all operation is correct.




Notice: 1.Please note if you take battery out from device, all setting will back to default value, then you have do the setup again. 2. Please check the command file about packet end if you can not send the command to your device.
