To access the Vandal network outside the firewall, you will need to connect using a
Virtual Private Network (VPN) client. The University of Idaho uses Cisco’s VPN Client.
Downloading the VPN Client If have not already installed this software, it is available at
http://support.uidaho.edu/software/#VPN. Once you log in to the site with your Active
Directory User Name and Password, you will see these choices.
You will need to download the version for your computer. For Windows computers, you
can get this information by:

Click Properties
You should see a screen similar to this one (this screen is for a Windows 7 32 bit
computer).

When you click one of the links to download the software, you will be prompted for your
User Name and password. Enter your network user name and password.
Next you will be prompted to open or save the file. Click Save File.
The file will be downloaded to your Downloads directory.
After downloading the software, double click the file to start installing the software by
following these instructions.

Setup Instructions
1. After the download is complete, double click the program to run the setup wizard. If you are running Windows Vista, click Run on the Security warning.
2. Once the wizard loads, click Next.
3. After reading the license agreement, agree to the terms and select the radio
button I accept the license agreement. Then select Next. Note: You must agree to the terms in order to use the VPN Client.
4. By default the wizard will install the software to C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\VPN Client. If you would like the software to be installed elsewhere,

select Browse.
5. Click Next to copy required files to your computer.
6. Once the installation is complete, you can exit the wizard by clicking Finish.

7. You must restart your computer for all changes to take place. Select Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

Using the VPN Client
1. After your computer has restarted, click on the Start menu, select All Programs, click on Cisco Systems VPN Client and finally select VPN Client from the list.
2. Highlight the Vandal VPN Connection and click Connect.

3. When prompted, enter your Active Directory Username and Password.
4. To disconnect right-click on the lock icon in the task bar and select Disconnect.
