Why should I use Twitter to find a job?

1. To stay up to date with your “field.”

2. To expand your professional network.

3. To find opportunities.

4. To enhance your job search skills.

5. To appear (and to be) up-to-date with social media

6. Because the old method of posting your resume on Monster, Career Builder, etc. is not working.

7. Because jobs get posted only on Twitter.

Common terms in “Twittosphere” Tweet: A post made on Twitter by a user.

ReTweet or RT: Reposting something that has already been posted on the Twitter stream. RT usually precedes the original poster to give credit.

DM: This is a Direct Message sent to a twitter user. One has to follow you in order to DM them. DMs don’t appear in the public twitter stream but go directly to the receiver’s inbox.

@ Reply: The @ symbol is used to reply to a twitter user. E.g. @cstuckey56

# (Hashtag):A hash symbol is used to comment about a certain topic in a tweet so that people searching for it can easily find it. Searching for #SocialMedia retrieves all tweets talking about Social Media

My rules you must follow

Never “Spam” or over Tweet.

Always give thanks for the person who is RT’ing or Mentioning your Tweet.

Quality is always better then Quantity

When you see an interesting Tweet, RT or Mention it.

You don’t have to follow everybody. Be selective

Don’t close the ability to Follow you.

Engagement is most important. Be involved and don’t be a “Stalker.”
