Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets".

Created in March 2006...the service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million registered users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day…Unregistered users can read tweets, while registered users can post tweets through the website interface, SMS, or a range of apps for mobile devices.

 From the rolling hills of Monticello in Virginia to the cemeteries of Cambridge, MA, from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the entrance of The Salem Witch Museum… students will explore the lives of more than a dozen historical figures. From presidents to authors, psychologists to criminals, these individuals come from diverse backgrounds and include such people as Abraham Lincoln, Benjamin Rush, William James, Abigail Adams, and many others. We will travel close to 2000 miles and will walk in their footsteps and explore the fundamental influences that have shaped the American perspective on politics, research, psychology, social change, and his tory. Through seminar, discussion and experiential approaches we will explore the impact of each individual’s perspective on the overall American view of the world as well as their contributions to their re spected fields. Real life examples in the context of where they lived will be utilized. Students will be expected to actively participate in the learning process of this 3 credit global studies course.
