Using Microsoft Word for the Research Process

1. Highlight -

Use the highlight feature to accent keywords or phrases. Tip: Use a light shade. Conversely, use a dark shade to black out everything but the bare facts. Print sheet and have kids paraphrase or summarize from the remaining information.

On a Mac: View Toolbars Formatting

On a PC the highlighting button is located on the Formatting Toolbar at the far right. Click on the arrow.

2. Note, Quote and Paraphrase Practice –

Use a Table to create a note-taking sheet that students can use to capture a quote, take notes, collect key words, summarize or paraphrase information.

To customize use Draw Table.

Click to turn highlighting on. Click on down arrow to select colour.

Choose sections as needed and space out on page.
