DESCRIPTION

A short presentation for the Be2Camp North meetup on the potential for micro-blogging within architectural collaboration. Based on the following blog entry: http://www.stress-free.co.nz/using_microblogging_to_record_architectural_design_conversation_alongside_the_bim

We currently do a bad job of recording the design story

BIM is a “perfect” record of an outcome, but the processes that led to it are lost or forgotten.

Hyperlinked Practice: Facilitate better collaboration by enabling a distributed design team to “surf” the collective set of decisions, compromises and assumptions made during a project.

Hyperlinked Practice

Apply a theoretical litmus test, the principles of the Project Information Cloud:

• Simple

• Ubiquitous

• Decentralised

• Modular

• Information Aware

• Context Sensitive

• Evolving Semantics

Is a technology choice conducive to this architectural collaboration goal?

Micro-blogging satisfies these principles “pretty well”

Therefore we can postulate that as an architectural collaboration tool it could be very productive.

Whilst it possible to use any micro-blogging service, for optimum results and adoption the AEC industry needs dedicated platforms.

An AEC micro-blogging service should focus on:

Tantalisingly close Many of the components exist, but there is still a long way to go.
