Main goal
Find the best location for a new golf course development in Montemor-o-Velho Municipality
Geoprocessing the colected information (classification, union, merge, overlay, area calculation) ArcView and Idrisi32;
Compare the results with the Master Plan from Montemor-o-Velho.
Objectives:
Calculate aspect and slope from the DEM; Identify the suited geology; Identify the suited land use; Establish buffer zones around the main roads and water
courses;
SLOPE Less then 10%
ASPECT South, East, West
LAND USEPastures or agricultural fields with low income and
sandy soils
HIDROGRAPHIC NETWORK Buffer zone greater then 100 m
ROAD NETWORKBuffer zone of 50 m around the secondary roads.
Buffer zone of 500 m around the main roads.
GOLF COURSE AREA9 holes, area between 20 and 30 hectares
18 holes, area between 40 and 60 hectares

Final Remarks
GIS revealed their usefulness in order to find suitable locations for new golf courses developments
From the work developed it was possible to conclude:
1. According to the GIS results it is impossible to develop a new golf course with 18 holes;
2. But, it is possible to decide between 8 possible locations for a new golf course with 9 holes;
