In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge

forms and conventions for real media products?

Page 2: Use, develop or challenge media

Conventions To know if we used, developed or challenged forms and conventions we first

had to discover what these conventions were. We discovered this through

-STAs-Codes & Conventions-Subject Matter Research

Location After analysing trailers like Perks Of Being A Wallflower, Kidulthood,

Tormented and Kick Ass we discovered reoccurring locations-Schools-Parks-Homes, etc

These were all from different teen genres so we thought these locations would be suitable for our film using these 3 places predominantly.

Content Trailers generally start slowly and quicken in pace to get your heart racing

and increase interest. The footage is usually from before the climax or avoiding giving anything away.

We challenged the content by putting the end of the film first. Using a therapist scene that was clearly after all the events. We thought this could help give some exposition without ruining the film.

Character The protagonist in a psychological thriller is usually as loner, who seems left

out of most things and very troubled. There is almost always something they are dealing with. They are also generally male.

We used these conventions and developed them by using a female lead instead of a male.

Other psychological thrillers like shutter Island, The Butterfly Effect and Sixth sense have strayed away from female leads.

Inspiration After a lot of research and backtracking we eventually took our lead

inspiration from sixth sense. The film is of a character who looks unstable to the rest of the world seeing things that nobody else sees. A character that is completely vulnerable.
