Why use CFLs? • ENERGY SAVINGS: They use 2/3 less energy than standard bulbs and can save $20 to $30 per bulb in energy costs over the life of the bulb. • COOL BURNING: They generate 70 percent less heat that standard bulbs. • LONGER LIFE: Compare 750-1,000 hours for a standard bulb to 6,000-12,000 hours for a CFL. • ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY: If every American home replaced just one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR CFL, we would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars. Shopping Tips: • Replace bulbs in fixtures you use the most for greatest savings. • Look for the ENERGY STAR logo on the package. • Make sure the CFL will fit your fixture.
