Q: Think of two situations in which you have been a customer: one in

which you were satisfied with the merchandise you received and one in

which you were not. Make a list of reasons you were satisfied in the first

case and another list of reasons you were not satisfied in the second

case. Would you say that the failure was the result of the seller not

    understanding your needs?

Answer:Beinga customer I needed an easy moveable storage device. In first case I received a USB (universal serial Bus). I realized that it is very useful device

    according to my needs.

A USB drive is a small stick that has billions of tinycells that can be manipulated to allow electricity

through or not. The computer can send some

electricity to it in a way to either turn it on or off. Then it can read it by trying to send electricity

    through it.

A USB flash drive [also called a thumb drive] is a NAND type flash memory. A USBwas designed for the exchange and saving of data as an alternative to magnetic disks.

NAND type flash memory has the capacity to hold large volumes of data. Writing and

erasing speed is also fast. On the other hand, random access is rather slow because it uses

block as a unit for the purpose of writing and reading. A USB drive is made up of asecure case small circuit board and is integrated with a universal serial bus (USB)

connector. The secure case is typically made up of rubber or metal. This secure case

protects the circuit board of the USB drive from damage. USB drives are very muchsmaller than floppy disks and are rewritable.

    Advantages of USB:

    1. A USB was designed for the exchange and saving of data as an

alternative to magnetic disks2. A USB drive is a small stick that has billions of tiny cells that can be manipulated

to allow electricity through or not.

    3. USB drive can normally hold up to 256GBs

    4. USB drives can be more expensive but last much longer and you can change what

    is on them very easily

    5. USB has the capacity to hold large volumes of data.

    6. USB drives are reliable, when huge amounts of data have to be

moved. Some USB drives allow 1 million erase or write cycles.

    7. A USB drive is made up of a secure case small circuit board and

is integrated with a universal serial bus (USB) connector.

    8. USB drives are smaller and compact than floppy disks and are

rewritable, so users can carry them easily in their pockets or

they can attach it with their key chains as well.

    9. A USB drive can be easily inserted into the USB port of a

computer. With the help of USB flash drive

    10. Data can be safely and easily transferred.

    11. A USB drive is more reliable and safer than a floppy disk.

    12. The USB Memory card readers have a removable flash

memory card. USB flash drives provide more benefits to users

    than other storage devices.

    13. USB 2.0 is much faster than an optical disk in terms of the

data storage in a much smaller space.

    14. Another use for USB mass storage devices is the portable execution of software

applications (such as web browsers and VoIP clients) with no need to install them

    on the host computer

In second case the merchandise gave me writeable CD (compact disc).

A CD is a disk that is coated in a layer of material, that material is physically changedusing a laser to make dents in the material. This represents the 1s and 0s by making into a

dent or no dent. CD-R and DVD-R and DVD+R are

'Write Once, Read Many' formats. This capabilityis called "WORM' for short.

This means you can only write to the disc once (or

in multi-session several times to different locationson the disc before finalizing).

This is unlike other formats used for hard drives,

flash memory, backup tape and certain optical

formats like the +RW and -RW in DVD recordablethat can be erased and re written hundreds or

millions of times (in disc based hard drives).

A CD-R or recordable DVD provides an "archive", or permanent record of the data

    copied.

    Disadvantages of CD:

    1. CD normally holds 4.5 GBs

    2. CD can be cheap but not last much longer and you cannot change what is on

    them.

    3. CD is rather slow because it uses block as a unit for the purpose

    of writing and reading.

    4. CD was not much smaller and was not rewritable.

    5. Data can not be removed or saved on compact disk.

    6. With CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, we can only add data once, and we can't remove data

once it's burned onto the disc.

    7. Increased overhead less usable space due to the multiple table of contents, fixed

    or variable length packets

    8. CDs are slower than USB drives

    9. Backward computability issues due to lower emulation of the pits and lands

    10. Areas can get burned out

    11. Difficulty in updating.

    12. Once CDs have been produced/ burnt it is not possible to update them.

    13. Less memory compared to USB.

    14. CDs are permanent

    15. CDs require special drives to read/write.

    16. CDs storage does not provide enough data storage in comparison to USB

    17. CDs storage is expensive per GB/TB

    18. Optical storage rewritable formats suffer from compatibility issues between

    drives.

    19. Consumer based formats like CD-R and DVD-R, BD-R do not have a formal

method of grading quality of discs. There are no standards for longevity tests.

    20. Storing data on a CD requires specialized software and multiple disks. Recovery

typically is an extremely cumbersome, time intensive and failure-prone process.

Would you say that the failure was the result of the seller not

    understanding your needs?

In second case it was my failure to describe my needs properly to the merchandise. I was

not familiar with the USB flash player. So I told my need was, just to save data and I

    wanted easy moving.
