Volume 30 Issue 6 Dec 20/Jan 21
Our chapter has held our monthly
dance at Suncoast Ballroom in
August, September, October for
the small number of dancers who
just did not want to give up
dancing during this pandemic.
On Monday, November 30th, we
will hold our Holiday Ball there.
We will not hold a dance in
December.
Suncoast Ballroom will hold a
Christmas Eve cookie dance, a
Christmas night dance, a New
Year’s Eve Ball as well as dances
Tue, Sat, Sun nights and a Friday
Tea Dance. So you will have
plenty of dancing there in
December.
In mid-December, the Gulfport
Casino Ballroom will make a
decision about re-opening.
COVID numbers are already
increasing, and most dancers are
not yet returning to ballroom
dancing. I don’t believe attendance
would be large enough if we
returned to the Casino for our
monthly dance during the winter
months, so I informed the Casino
manager of this.
Also, the small number of dancers
attending our dances at Suncoast
Ballroom will only dance there as
they do not want the long drive to
the Casino Ballroom.
That is why our January 25th and
February 22nd dances will be held
at Suncoast Ballroom
Our Board of Directors has not met
together since January, but we
voted to award Board Secretary
Judy Polk the 2020 Volunteer of
the Year award. I delivered this
much deserved award to Judy as
she is not yet returning to our
monthly dances.
This is Judy’s 4th year as Board
Secretary. In May of 2018, she
took on another important office as
Membership Chair.
This year she began sending Mail
Chimp email reminder messages
after being trained by Rich Moss,
and Tina Baraque replaced Judy
as Membership Chair.
West Coast Swing dancers can
celebrate New Year’s Eve with
Danielle at Bayou Dance Club.
Call 813-390-2556 for details.
Ballroom dancers can celebrate
New Year’s Eve at Cabaret
Dance Club, 7pm, $100. Jerry

on New Year’ Eve begins at 8pm.

SEPTEMBER DANCE at SUNCOAST BALLROOM By Nancy Welch Photos by Marilou Deshais, Teresa Zeoli
Corinne Rungo, who teaches at Dancers Co-op, gave
us a great West Coast Swing class, and brought her
advanced students Claude and Carol to perform a
Smooth Medley and Samba in the show. We loved
both numbers!
We were also treated to some terrific choreography in
the Swing danced by Shelley Harrington, the owner
of Dancers Coop and her student Ian Forestier. Many
thanks, Corinne, Shelley, and students!
Corinne will start a Beginner group class for ladies in
January and she teaches private lessons at Dancers Co-
op, also. For more info, call her at 727-741-3337.
No dance parties at Dancers Co-op during the
pandemic, but private lessons taught by Shelley, Eddie
Rivera, and other instructors.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME BALL OCTOBER 26 at SUNCOAST BALLROOM
by Nancy Welch Photos by Teresa Zeoli & Marilou Deshais
Many thanks to Teresa Zeoli and Marilou Deshais for getting these great photos of performers and costumes at
our Halloween Costume Ball! Dancers Co-op gave us a great show as they do every year. Owner Shelley
Harrington and student Norm Urich performed a beautiful Bolero. Next, Eddie Rivera and student Ginger
Schiller danced a lively Swing. We were treated to a playful Cha Cha by Shelley and Eddie. Attendees very
much enjoyed the Bachata group class taught by Eddie, who drives over from Orlando at least once a week to
teach at Dancers Co-op.
Many thanks to Dancers Co-op professionals and amateurs for sharing their time and talent!
After the costume parade, everyone in costume chose a small prize. Thanks to Bob Kompinski for holding the
box of prizes.
Many thanks also to Teresa Zeoli for donating cheesecake and helping with setting up snacks and with cleanup.
Michaela Smith also helped with cleanup. Although they could not attend, Tina Baraque donated potato salad
and Diana Mendez donated potato chips.
Suncoast Ballroom owners Elissa Silvers collected admissions and Joe Taylor handled the show music.Deejay
Sam Moses provided the dance music, as always. Five ladies enjoyed dances with Pro Hosts Richard Roberts
and Michael Castellana.

MEMORIAL ROSEMARY DONAHUE By Nancy Welch and Ann Bentley
Some of our members will remember Rosemary Donahue
who danced here for many years before moving close to her
daughter in New Jersey She is pictured here with Ann
Bentley who also danced here for many years before moving
close to her sister in Atlanta, GA.
Ann and Rosemary talked often on the phone, and Ann
called me to notify me of Rosemary’s death on September
18th. Her heart had gradually grown weaker
They are pictured here on one of their travels together as they
both loved traveling and shopping! Paris and Alaska were
two of their favorite trips.
Rosemary and Ann both enjoyed Pro-Am competitions
when they were living here. They also loved dance parties at
Suncoast Ballroom and ballroom dance cruises organized
by Betsy Hockaday with several dance hosts for the single
ladies.
Rosemary and partner Ron Johnson also performed at our
monthly dances at Gulfport Casino Ballroom. They
enjoyed lessons with Alan Tuggey at Dancer’s
Rendezvous.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters Joann and
Mary and by all the friends who her.
MEMORIAL FRANK HAYES by Nancy Welch
Although he suffered a lot in his 90s decade, I was sad to hear
of Frank’s death in October. He attended Deejay Sam’s
Thursday Tea dances at Suncoast Ballroom and enjoyed
weekly lessons there with Elissa Silvers for as long as he
could.
Ballroom dancing gave him so much joy and so many
friends for many years here in Pinellas County even though
he had to drive through lots of traffic from his home east of
Tampa over the Howard Frankland bridge and back.
He also danced at Bayou Dance Club, and at Crystal Blue
and 1st Dance studio before they closed, and probably others.
Frank will be greatly missed by his daughter, Elissa
Silvers, friends Trish Johnston and Lorna Schwab, and by
all who knew him.

MEMORIAL WAYNE MEIER By Nancy Welch
Wayne with Elissa Silvers Marjorie Reynolds with Wayne
How sad to lose WAYNE MEIER to lung cancer at his Top of the World condo on October 20 th . His children
Dawn, Diane, and Dean were with him as well as a Hospice nurse. His good friend Marjorie Reynolds lives a
short distance away, and had helped Wayne find his condo so he could return here from The Villages. Marjorie
kept me and other friends of Wayne’s informed of his illness. Wayne and his children very much appreciated
all the help she gave him. He will be greatly missed by his children Dawn, Dean, Diana, 7 grandkids, 2 great
grandkids, 2 brothers, his good friends Manuel dos Santos and Marjorie Reynolds, and all of us who knew him.
When this pandemic is finally over, his children will fly down from Connecticut for a celebration of his life at
Suncoast Ballroom which was Wayne’s 2nd home for many years. Wayne is pictured above left with Elissa
Silvers of Suncoast Ballroom as he performed with her there in Showcases, and at our chapter monthly dances
at Gulfport Casino Ballroom.
He is also pictured with longtime friend Marjorie Reynolds. They enjoyed ballroom dance cruises together
several years ago as well as Canasta and Bridge games. Wayne had multiple interests and talents – bowler, golfer,
card player, traveler, gardener, musician, square dancer, polka dancer, ballroom dancer.
He even joined a barbershop choral group and became choral director during the marriage to his first wife. They
competed and became 2nd place champions in the Northeast. Later he joined the Sound Syndicate barbershop
quartet which became #3 in the Northeast!
After high school, Wayne joined the Navy Air Division and flew North Atlantic submarine patrols. After the
service, Wayne worked as an Engineering Assistant on helicopter aviation electronics at Sikorsky Aircraft
Company. During all these years he continued dancing.
Thank you, Wayne, for helping our chapter as Outreach Deejay and dancer, Web Site manager, and friend.
