WAR OF 1812 (1812)

• Here come the British! Again. Ugh.

Americans vs. Britain and Native American allies

 

Napoleonic Wars going on, no one care about this war in Europe (Native Americans were crucial for England)

Battles rage, sea, land- “Canada” to New Orleans

Washington D.C. BURNS (The White House!)

Defeat of Tecumseh's Indian Confederation (he was killed and the British turned on them)

Result: England lost- AGAIN.

MISSOURI COMPROMISE (1820-1821)

Purpose: To balance “free” states and “slave” states in Congress and Senate. • Maine could come in “free” and Missouri

could come in “slave.”• Any new state north of 36°30′ FREE• Any new state south- SLAVE

Result: Delayed Civil War

MONROE DOCTRINE (1823)

• Stated that further efforts by European

nations to colonize land or interfere with states

(countries, territories, ect.) in North or South

America would be viewed as acts of aggression,

requiring U.S. intervention.

• Existing colonies are okay.

• Result: First small step for American

Imperialism.

FUGITIVE SLAVE ACT (1793 & 1850)

• F.S.A #1 (1793): Federal law not really enforced.

• F.S.A. #2: Made federal officers pay a huge fine and fined people who helped runaway slaves.

•Result: Forced the northern states to actively enforce slavery.
