Results: Seizure of Counterfeit Goods at Border

• U.S. Customs seized 14,000 counterfeit shipments in FY07

• Value of those shipments – $200 million, a 27% increase from the previous year

• China remained the origin for 80% of counterfeit goods (Hong Kong next at 6%)

• Electronic recordation of IP rights

• Destruction of goods, seizure of assets & equipment, fines, imprisonment

Results: Prosecution

• 230 IP prosecutors

• Criminal cases remain high: 33% increase over last 2 years

• Defendants sentenced for IP crimes: 35% increase over last year (92% over year before)

• Defendants sentenced to prison terms of > 2 yrs: 130% increase
