US FDA cautions consumers not todrink Miracle Mineral Solution

Consumers are being warned by the US FDA not todrink Miracle Mineral Solution, an oral liquid solutionalso known as Miracle Mineral Supplement or MMS, asit may result in serious harm.

Several reports of health injuries have been receivedby the FDA following use of this product, includingsevere nausea, vomiting, and "life-threatening" low BPcaused by dehydration. The product instructsconsumers to mix the 28% sodium chlorite solution withan acid such as citrus juice, before drinking. However,the FDA cautions that this mixture produces chlorinedioxide, a potent bleach, ingestion of which in high oraldoses can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea andsymptoms of severe dehydration.

MMS claims to treat several unrelated conditions,such as HIV infections, hepatitis, acne and cancer –claims for which the FDA can find no basis. The agencyadvises consumers who have purchased MMS tocease using it immediately and throw away anyremaining product. Consumers who have experiencedany adverse effects potentially related to MMS shouldconsult a healthcare professional, and all such effectsshould be reported to the FDA’s MedWatchprogramme. The FDA will continue to investigate thisproduct, and may pursue appropriate civil or criminalenforcement actions to protect the public.FDA.
