Mission: The Walla Walla District operates and maintains multi-purpose infrastructure assets, and plans and executes engineering and water resource services across the Inland Northwest and the Nation to safely maximize public and environmental benefits.

The Walla Walla District has 2 sets of boundaries: Civil Works – Focuses on the Snake River Drainage Basin to include a small part of the Columbia River with McNary Dam and its pool. Regulatory – We manage the regulatory activities for the State of Idaho Of significance is Dworshak Dam 717’ tall 24th tallest dam in the world 3rd tallest dam in the US tallest concrete gravity dam in the US (2nd tallest in the world)

The Walla Walla District is a Civil Works District that Covers about 107,000 square miles, following the Snake River Basin and a portion of the Columbia River Basin. We have the potential for activities in parts of 6 states: WA, OR, ID, WY, NV & UT. We operate and maintain a program of $200 - $230 million dollars annually and employ 800+/- people in many career fields We manage operations on three major rivers consisting of 94 Miles on the Columbia, 140 miles on the Snake and 2 Miles on the Clearwater. We operate and maintain eight dams, of which six have multi-purpose hydro and navigation facilities and three provide flood damage reduction reservoirs. Additionally a federal levee system and recreation sites are operated and maintained. Hydropower --- The Corps is the nation’s largest hydropower producer (can power 10 million homes). NWW is the Corps second largest power producer (4,400 megawatts capability). We provide enough electricity to power approximately 1/3 of the residential customers in WA, OR, and ID Navigation --- 10 million tons of products worth about $3.0 billion transit our dams annually, from the ports of Lewiston/Clarkston to Portland. Recreation --- 8.2M visitors a year use our facilities, which in turn, creates three thousand jobs. Engaged Globally --- Expeditionary Mindset –deployments supported about 250 tour of duty activities in Iraq and Afghanistan and 159 ventured forth to help rebuild Louisiana and Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina. And we continue to send volunteers to disaster sites annually.
