    DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION:

    Urinary Tract Infection in the western vernacular, Is when the Urinary Tract, which is comprised of two

    kidneys, two ureters, bladder and a urethra is infected by either bacteria (Escherichia Coli, E.Coli), avirus (Herpes Simplex) or a fungus (Candida) causing the following symptoms, urinary retention,

    pain ful urination, p yuria and lower b ackpain.According to the TCM perspective the consumption of spicy foods, foods that are high in fat and sugar

    can be attributed to causing two pattern presentations, Damp Heat pattern and Kidney Spleen

    Deficiency patterns.

    PATTERNS OF DISHARMONY/ DIAGNOSIS:

    Urinary distress is classified in APM as the third pattern of visceral agitation (Pelvic Collapse)

    CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS:

    Visceral dysfunction in the lower abdominal region can also occur as a result of excessive exercise.The muscles become overly rigid and an impediment to proper to proper visceral function in the

    reproductive and urinary tracts. In either case, Dysfunctions such as PMS, vaginitis, cystitis, prostititis,amenorrhea or menstrual irregularity might occur, as well as prolapsed organs such as are seen in

    hernia or hemorrhoids. [pg 112]

    Presentation of tight and tender areas in the shoa yang and yang ming zones along with a reactive

    rectus abdominus, including the lower external obliques in GB-26,27and 28. palpation o f chong mai

    Treatment Principle: Release constrictions in the Yang-ming/Shoa-yang zones and tonify the middleheater

    Treatment Strategies:

    Root (jing level) Sp-4 right, Pc-6 left (Chong Mai opening). GB-41 left, TH-5 right (Dai Mai opening)

    Ying Level (distal): Kd-3 Bilateral (kidney support) Lv-3, Sp-6 regulating middle heater.

    Ying (local) : CV-2,3,6, 12, and St-36 for tonification of the middle heater. The addition of GV-20 for organ prolapse.

    Wei level: Trp release in the vastus medialis, satorius muscle for release of pelvic region.Local trps for the external obliques, and rectus abdominus.

    Patient Education:

    Drink 8 full glasses of water daily with a diluted cranberry juice or extract.Proper hygiene is essential

    Prognosis:A urinary tract infection is uncomfortable, but treatment is usually successful. Symptoms of a bladder

    infection usually disappear within 24 - 48 hours after treatment begins. If you have a kidney infection,it may take 1 week or longer for your symptoms to go away.
