Dear Parishioners,

In this bulle�n there are two important no�ces for you to read. The first is about our urgent need for Acolytes and

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist to volunteer to take communion to our local nursing home, Ella Williams House. Only

two weeks ago, we heard the Li(le Sisters speak of their apostolate to the elderly and their desire to bring a sense of dignity

and of being loved to those coming toward the end of their lives. These elderly people hunger for the Eucharist, just as you

and I do. I urge you to read the no�ce and help if you can.

The second no�ce to which I draw your a(en�on is the Parish Religious Educa�on Programme enrolment night. If you have

school aged children a(ending non-Catholic schools, then I urge you to enrol them for these religious educa�on classes so that

they can be prepared to receive the Sacraments in due �me. - Fr. Sunny

URGENTLY NEEDED— ACOLYTES /MINISTERS FOR COMMUNION TO THE SICK

Due to the re�rement of a number of our dedicated volunteer ministers, we urgently require Acolytes and Special Ministers to

volunteer for a monthly roster on a Saturday morning at Ella Williams nursing home in Camboon Road, Noranda. Training will be

provided.

We are being asked, this year, to “deepen our faith”. What is faith?

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says this:

IV. THE IMPLICATIONS OF FAITH IN ONE GOD

222 Believing in God, the only One, and loving him with all our being has enormous consequences for our whole

life.

223 It means coming to know God's greatness and majesty: "Behold, God is great, and we know him not."46

Therefore, we must "serve God first".47

224 It means living in thanksgiving: if God is the only One, everything we are and have comes from him: "What

have you that you did not receive?"48

"What shall I render to the LORD for all his bounty to me?"49

225 It means knowing the unity and true dignity of all men: everyone is made in the image and likeness of God.50

226 It means making good use of created things: faith in God, the only One, leads us to use everything that is not

God only insofar as it brings us closer to him, and to detach ourselves from it insofar as it turns us away from

him:

My Lord and my God, take from me everything that distances me from you.

My Lord and my God, give me everything that brings me closer to you

My Lord and my God, detach me from myself to give my all to you.51

227 It means trus�ng God in every circumstance, even in adversity. A prayer of St. Teresa of Jesus wonderfully

expresses this trust:

Let nothing trouble you / Let nothing frighten you Everything passes / God never changes /Pa$ence obtains all

Whoever has God / Wants for nothing God alone is enough.52

This can give us an understanding of what faith is. However, to understand our own faith, we need to spend �me

in prayer and medita�on and ask ourselves such ques�ons as: How strong is my faith? What do I really believe?

How can I grow closer to Christ? “Faith” needs to be something we understand with our heart, rather than our

head, if it is truly to grow.

PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMME (PREP) The PREP is for children who do not attend a Catholic school and whose parents wish them to receive Sacraments of First Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation. As formation is required at least 2 years before the Sacraments, it is important to enrol the children from a young age. Our parish is happy to receive children from pre-primary age. Do inform others in your school community about the information evening if you know they may be interested. This year our parish is starting a group for teens 12-16 years who would like to be involved in community awareness projects, reaching out to the lonely, elderly and those in need – and having fun at the same time. It will be run on Wednesday from 4.15pm to 5.20pm.

THE CARMELITE MEMORIAL

The rock has arrived!

Af Thanks to the generosity

of a small number of

Parishioners, we have been

able to have the selected rock delivered ready to be

liFed into place for the memorial. As two of the

dona�ons were quite large, we also have the money

in hand to have the rock liFed into place by crane,

which is quite an expensive process.

Once the rock is secured in place in the

columbarium, a decision will be made on the style of

plaque for the memorial and the wording to be

used.

If you would like to contribute toward this memorial,

your dona�ons would be most welcome. Dona�ons

can be passed to Br. James or either of the priests,

TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION IN HONOUR OF OUR LADY OF LOURDES

Friday 8th February, 2013 at 7.00pm.

The procession around Lake Monger with rosary and hymns will commence
