personnel from Alaska, Arizona,

California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho,

Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon,

benefiting two great charities, American

Red Cross and Casa Colina Centers for

Rehabilitation.

The Inland Empire Chapter provides free

Adult CPR training at various special

events. This year in partnership with

the 2011 Western States Police and

Fire Games the Inland Empire Chapter

is hosting its 4th annual Super CPR

Saturday on June 4, 2011.

The Games will not only embrace the

sportsmanship and camaraderie among

the athletes, but also respectfully

of 9/11, remembering the brave efforts

of our first responders.

An excellent way to express your

gratitude for the men and women who

risk their lives every day is by becoming

Ontario, Southern California, is the host city for the 2011 Western States Police and Fire Games (June 4 - 11, 2011), which is the equivalent of the Olympics for the law enforcement and firefighting communities

The Ontario Games is the result of the collaboration between the Ontario Professional Firefighters Local #1430, Ontario Police Officers Association, Ontario Police Management Team and the Ontario Convention and Visitors Bureau. This is the first time in the history of the Games of such collaboration. The advantage - each team brings diverse experience and skill sets to the development and implementation of the event, which in turn will result in a memorable and rewarding experience for not only the athletes but also the surrounding communities.

“Our objective this year is to not only provide the athletes with a memorable and long-lasting experience, but to also embrace the community. We have collaborated with Invincible, Inc. to host a professional mixed martial arts program as entertainment not only for the athletes, but also for the community. The same goes along with our partnership with Spur Productions to host the Spurs and Stripes Extreme Rodeo Games,” said Amita Patel, the Executive Director of the Games and Director of Sales and Marketing of the Ontario Convention and Visitors Bureau. “There is no better way to pay tribute to our public safety officials than with an event that celebrates their strengths, recognizes their contributions and memorializes their sacrifices”.

There will be over 65 different sporting events with over 6,000 firefighters and law enforcement officers participating from throughout the United States. Sporting events include Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Mud Run, Golf, 1/2 Marathon, Track/Field, Boxing and Motocross and much more.

Kick off the Games with the world renowned Scott’s Fire Fighter Combat Challenge - returning to Southern California after 10 years!

Compete in the Spurs and Stripes Extreme Rodeo - Stockwork, Gymkhana, English and Western Class

• Introducing Rock Climbing for the first time to the Games

• Experience the exhilaration of marathon running in the inaugural Guns and Hoses Marathon!

• Experience k-rails, artillery fire, helicopters and much more at the Mud Run

The majority of the sporting events will be located an average of 11 miles from the Ontario Convention Center, with the exception of Bass Fishing, Mountain and Downhill Cycling, Large/Small Bore and Surfing. Venues include:

• Big League Dreams - Softball: Play on replicas of famous ballparks such as Wrigley Field, Yankee Stadiums and Fenway Park!

• SC Village - Paintball: The fields are replicas of jungles and war zones such as Bosnia, China Beach, Gettysburg, North Vietnam and Baghdad.

• Dave and Busters - Darts/Billiards: What could be more perfect than an environment conducive for playing pool and darts?

• Jay Littleton Ballpark - Baseball: The movie ‘A League of Their Own’ was filmed on this historical field.

• Hanger 19 - Rock Climbing: Have a blast rock climbing at this fantastic venue

• Ontario Convention Center: will house 10 events - Boxing, Wrestling, Karate, Table Tennis, Wrist Wrestling, Submission Grappling; Push Pull, Bench Press, Indoor Volleyball and the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge...all within the confines of the Olympic Style Village!

What are the Western States Police and Fire Games?

The Western States Police & Fire Games (WSPFG) is an annual multi-sport Olympic-style athletic event. Founded in 1967, San Diego hosted the first California Olympics for public safety. It was the first of its kind in the United States. The vision of the event: “promoting sports for the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship, health, camaraderie, and physical fitness among sworn law enforcement officers, firefighters and for community wellness.” Over time, the vision expanded to become one of the largest amateur athletic multi-sport games in the world. The WSPFG provides a competitive and social environment to encourage and pay homage to the camaraderie among these men and women, through sports.

What is the goal of the 2011 WSPFG?

Our overall goal is simple, we aim to exceed all expectations with everyone saying, ‘WOW!’. It will truly be, “...Not just a sporting event...but an experience to remember!

Honoring 10 Year Anniversary of 9/11We have partnered with the Freedom Flame Memorial Foundation to have an outdoor display to respectfully commemorate the 10 Year Anniversary of 9/11. There will be the steel beams from the World Trade Center Towers; Ladder Truck 152 from Queens, NY, used to put out the fires at Ground Zero; a piece of the Pentagon and fragments from the wreckage of the Pennsylvania crash of Flight 93. There will also be the 9/11 Remembrance Room displaying artifacts collected throughout the years from across the country.

Giving back to the Community CharitiesThe law enforcement and fire fighting communities believe in strong communities and try to give back whenever they can. The net proceeds of the Games will be distributed to our official charities: the American Red Cross, because they were so impacting in the aftermath of the tragedy; Casa Colinas because of their fine work with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, multiple trauma, wounds and burns with Law Enforcement, Fire and the Military; and local law enforcement and fire related charitable organizations such as the widows and Orphans Funds and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

In addition to the athletic events, the Games will work to generate funds to support non-profits organizations by hosting a Silent Auction/ Celebrity Dinner, Pancake Breakfast, Harley Davidson 2011 Road Glide raffle and Chili Cook-off.

ONTARIO, CALIFORNIASELECTED TO HOST 2011 SKATE AMERICA

U.S. Figure Skating announced the selection of Ontario, Calif., as the host city for 2011 Skate America. The international event is one of six stops in the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Competition will take place Oct. 21–23, 2011, at the Citizens Business Bank Arena.

“We are pleased to award this competition to Ontario,” U.S. Figure Skating President Patricia St. Peter said. “This community has embraced the U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships this week, and we know it will give the same warm welcome to Skate America.”

This will be the second time Skate America will have been held in the state of California. Oakland hosted the event in 1991.

“We look forward to providing everyone attending this magnificent event the opportunity to experience some of the best hotels, restaurants, shopping and entertainment in Southern California” said Steve Eckerson, general manager of Citizens Business Bank Arena. “We are truly honored to host 2011 Skate America and look forward to the competition and excitement of this figure skating series.”

Skate America is an Olympic-style international figure skating event featuring three days of competition in ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dancing. The event annually attracts more than 60 world-class figure skaters. Past champions include five-time World champion and two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan and Olympic champions Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton and Evan Lysacek.

Tickets for the event will go on sale later this spring and will be available at www.2011skateamerica.com

2010 Skate America was held at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., where U.S. skaters won medals in three of the four disciplines and took home a total of four medals. Rachael Flatt won the ladies silver, while Armin Mahbanoozadeh garnered the men’s bronze. American ice dancers occupied two of the three podium positions in Portland, with Meryl Davis and Charlie White, the 2010 Olympic silver medalists, taking the gold medal and teammates Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani winning bronze.

Skate America will be the first of six events in the 2011 Grand Prix Series. Other annual stops in the Series include Skate Canada, the Cup of China, Trophée Eric Bompard (France), the Rostelecom Cup (Russia) and the NHK Trophy (Japan). The Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final takes place each December and rotates among the countries that

host the Grand Prix Series events.

>> COMMUNITY `Picking up the pieces of one’s life never seems easy, for we live in a time when so many of us have seen our homes, our jobs and our way of life eviscerated. But who among us has not dealt with setbacks, adversity and challenges? Perhaps this is why Glenn Gary’s book, The Psychology of Higher Living strikes an existential tone with a call from the book for us to develop a cause greater than our own. Mr. Gary’s journey to becoming a writer that provokes us to find meaning and purpose in our lives has seen its share of challenges and set backs. In 1987, he was the driver of the vehicle that carried him and his best friend that would end up striking a power pole head on. The resulting crash claimed his friends life four days later and set Mr. Gary on the path towards connecting with others. His sense of responsibility for the accident comes through the book with a message of hope that we can rise from the devastation of our youth and build a lasting bridge

towards meaning and purpose. He developed a further interest to become a speaker after walking in to find his mother, who had died from a stroke at the age of only 51.

These two tragedies illuminated the need to develop a greater awareness for our actions and what we manifest throughout the journey of life. At a time when Glenn enjoyed his greatest prosperity he stated: “I found myself writing the book and taking on Maslow’s long standing theory of self-actualization, by understanding that in my mind, our highest form of reaching our full potential is when our needs are met and we can now take in the suffering of others. This transcendence shifts our consciousness to a greater awareness of others and leads us to a greater enlightenment.“ In the words of the author, indeed this may be higher living.

GET FIT FOR KIDS! The Children’s Foundation of America will launch their Get Fit for Kids! Weight Loss Challenge. The program’s benefits are twofold - funds raised will be used to provide recreation activities for children who have been abused, neglected and abandoned, while at the same time participants are encouraged to lose weight and make healthier eating choices.

Businesses, organizations, churches and community groups are invited to join in the challenge. Participants are asked to donate $20.00 per month as they compete within their group, or challenge other groups to raise the stakes. The program is designed for a minimum of three months, but can be an ongoing or an annual weight loss and fitness event. What makes this competition even more exciting is that at the end of each month, the person who has lost the most weight will win 50% of the money collected for that month, and the remaining 50% will be donated to the Children’s Foundation. That’s three big incentives: (1) make good on those New Year’s resolutions to get healthy, (2) involve as many participants as possible to raise the stakes, and (3) help children in need by making a collective donation.

Community support is critical to the Children’s Foundation’s purpose, which is to provide permanence, safety and well-being to children in crisis. Over the past few years it has become increasingly difficult to meet the needs of our children due to the poor economy, cutbacks in reimbursement fees from governmental agencies and the ever-decreasing

buying power. With the help of local businesses, organizations and individuals who join in programs like Get Fit for Kids! and other efforts to raise funds, the Foundation hopes to continue to be the difference between what the government gives to agencies that provide services to children and what it really costs to provide the quality programs that can help break the cycle and heal the trauma of abuse.

If your group would be interested in participating in Get Fit for Kids! please contact Joey Seward at (909) 825-5588 ext. 235. We are also seeking donations of healthy incentives to offer our challenge participants. Gift cards at restaurants with healthy options, memberships to gyms and spas, discounts and coupons for items relating to healthy lifestyles are all welcome.

The Children’s Foundation of America, headquartered in Colton, CA, is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization and supports children’s agencies that provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment for children who are separated from their birth families due to neglect, abuse, abandonment or family instability. Tax ID 33-0910478

Please visit us at www.childrensfoundationofamerica.org and be sure to become a friend of the Foundation on Facebook at www.facebook/childrensfoundation.

Thank You, Imaging Plus!

In the past The Grove has used several vendors for our copying, printing, scanning and faxing needs and no one comes close to the level of customer service and support we’ve received from Imaging Plus, Inc. The sales team paid special attention to our organization’s current and future needs. While reducing our overall expenses, Imaging Plus proposed the perfect solutions and we could not be happier with having selected Imaging Plus as our vendor of choice. The Ricoh copier/printer systems have greatly improved our document flow. Their reliability, quality and speed enable us to accomplish our printing and copying tasks effectively and with much ease.
