DESCRIPTION
An alternative proposal for the north harbour in Lysekil, a coastal swedish city. There are projects on going and we want to establish a more human scale dealing with the traditionnal atmopsher, but still full filling the requierement of the building compagny.TRANSCRIPT

From the common analysis of the touristiccity Lysekil, we had to develop one project which could contribute to the development of the city toward sustainability.
We aimed to present an alternative proposal about the north harbour. There are projects on going and we want to take part of the debate in order to show that it is possible to make profit in the same time than to create space for human in an architectural quality.

PROPOSAL I:

+ Interesting functions. Main public square. Both separate housing and apartments. High density.
- Doesn’t fit in to the landscape at all. The scale is to big. Focus on asphalt instead of using local materials.
+ Good scale. Cosy atmosphere. Physical apperence fitting to surronding neighbourhoods. - Too close to the water. Separated functions. Low density.
PROPOSAL II:
Kvadraten Arkitekter
+ Closeness to the water in both residential and hotel area. Good for tourists.
- Too much parking spaces. Focus on the huge hotel-area. Lysekil is not Rotterdam.
PROPOSAL III:

A L I V I N G H A R B O R F O R L Y S E K I L - A vision for Norra Hamnen, Lysekil
We choose to reuse the same functions than the 3 other proposals. However our scale is much smaller. We mixed rental and private housing and we created special moment at the connection to the sea. By prolonging the street past the old factory and up in the west rock landscape, we have taken away a dead end, aiming to integrate the harbor with the rest of the city. It is not any more apart from the city but part of Lysekil. We kept the post office building and the small industrial building called “Smedjan”. The new village is inspired by Gamlestan to create a friendly and human scale inside of the city. To protect the area from the wind there are slightly bigger houses at the seafront, which also contains i.e. shops, restaurants and artstudios. The boardwalk connects the nature reserve with the large public square. We created a new publilc seafront open for everyone, giving a new identity to lysekil.
