URBAN DESIGN

Responding to the demands of today’s complex urban infrastructure and community development needs, the Freese and Nichols Urban Design Studio delivers innovative, state-of-the-art solutions for projects large and small. The Studio merges expertise from a broad range of disciplines to seamlessly address complex projects demanding sophisticated planning, design and constructed outcomes. We focus on creative problem solving to build consensus, sustainable solutions and a strong sense of place.

Our subject matter experts are well-versed in the application of sustainable urbanism principles, including context sensitive design, walkability, smart growth, resiliency and low-impact development. We apply these to Complete Streets, mixed-use and transit-oriented developments, urban parks and open spaces, traditional neighborhood developments, and form-based codes. These capabilities are coordinated for project implementation through our collaborative, integrated project management methodologies.

DOWNTOWN SMALL AREA PLAN City of Longview

Freese and Nichols developed the City of Longview’s Small Area Plan, which has been completed and adopted as an outcome of “The Long View” long-range plan. This plan includes recommendations on land use, transportation, public spaces and redevelopment. Utilizing a robust market assessment and community input, the Small Area Plan presents a strategy for development in Downtown that creates a walkable, pedestrian-friendly experience.
