General
More and more data centres and production facilities make
higher demands on UPS systems. Non-linear or unbalanced
loads have to be controlled as much as instantanuous load
changes, overloads and high inrush currents. Today UPS are
considered an integral part of any data centre and can mean
a high investment.Therefore compromising on the reliability
and efficiency of the UPS does not make sense.
Economic advantages of the technology
The PL 400 uses IGBT power simiconductors and the latest
design in rectifiers and inverter technology. This means the
PL 400 operates without any mains feedback and does not
draw any reactive power from the mains (see figure).
Therefore, no complex or costly harmonic filters are required.
The advantages of the PL 400:
• Increased reliability with lower component count
• No additional costs for filters
• No resonance effects due to wrongly balancedfilters
• No interference problems with diesel generators
• No harmonic problems at the input, unlike 6 or 12-pulse
UPS systems
• Generators can be sized smaller because no reserve is
required to cope with harmonic oscillation
Reliability without any compromises
The Power Line 400 is a UPS complies with the highest stan-
dards for safety and reliability for power supplies without
compromising it´s efficiency. The combination of the 16 bitmicro-controller and the latest power electronic control and
monitoring design allow the user to access all the UPS´s
functions. The Power Line 400 is a true on-line UPS with dou-
ble voltage conversion and a constant voltage and frequency
output. In the event of mains failure the power is supplied
uninterrupted by the battery without a break in the output of
the UPS. Even at 100% unbalanced loads, a very high voltage
constant is maintained so as not to endanger the protected
load. Most EDP loads generate high peak currents, even with
three times the nominal current, the quality of the output is
not effected or the need to go to by-pass mode. In essence it
provides perfect UPS protection.

Space saving and compact
Space and volume are critical factors for the total cost
calculation of a UPS. With this in mind the PL 400 is designed
in order to minimise it´s footprint. The design of the high per-
formance heat sink allows us to concentrate the whole
power electronics on one sub-assembly.The system is also
designed to allow access to all vital components through the
front.
Parallel operation and redundency
The PL 400 can be connected in parallel and requires no
external control (no master/slave operation). The system has
the option of up to eight systems in parallel to all the UPS to
grow with your requirements.The cabinets can be easily
configuered and repuire no special cables for parallel
operation.
Easy operation
All available intormation on the status of the PL 400 can be
accessed via the control panel.The control panel can be
tilted to allow the user a more comfortable reading position.

Guarantee of highest battery availability
The battery is an essential part of the UPS´s function. With the
PL 400 the status and condition of the battery is constantly
monitored. Temperature controlled charging maximises thelife of the battery.
• Low voltage protection switches off the battery before an
under voltage state occurs.
• Cyclic battery testing monitors the battery condition
• Battery monitoring provides the user with information on
the batteries capacity and the battery back-up with the
current load.
• Total discharge testing is available to test the battery capa-
city against predetermined levels.

A complete system for the remote diagnostics and
monitoring
The PL 400 allows remote access to the system for error
diagnosis and fault finding. Recall of system messages is
available from the event memory.All operating and system
messages such as change in status and main interruptions
are maintained with a date and time of the event. Recall of
real time data of voltage, frequency, current and power is
also available. The monitoring system can also be configured
to the users specific requirements, this includes updating of
the PL 400 software via modem and if required the system
can auto-dial a specified service provider in the event ot
system errors.
SNMP – integration of the Power Line 400 into the
network management
The "Simple Network Management Protocol" (SNMP) is a
standardized and worldwide used network protocol which
allows easy monitoring of all network components. Therefore,
the PL 400 can be very easily integrated into existing
network management systems such as e.g. HP-Openview,
IBM-Netview, Novell NMS and other SNMP-compatible
systems.
UPSMON – central operating data acquisition and
monitoring
UPSMON is a complete information software for the monito-
ring of either individual or multiple power systems eitherthrough a serial interface, modem or network. It allows real-
time monitoring of all system events in a graphical format.
This information can be copied over to databases and spre-
adsheets for further analysis.
Simple remote diagnosis and
monitoring via modem
UPSMAN – automatic power shut-down and
monitoring software
Systematic shut-down of individual work stations or entire
networks. UPSMAN is available for all common operatingsystems, e.g. Windows 9.X / NT / 2000, OS/2, Novell
Netware, UNIX, Linux.
