CENTRAL LIBRARY HOURS Monday - Friday 10am - 7pm Saturday & Sunday 10am - 4pm

As part of its activities to

commemorate this year’s centenary

of the First World War, Upper Hutt

City Library has recently installed a

new display on its Heritage Wall. This

uses photographs from the Library’s

Heritage Collections to illustrate the

profound transformation that the

outbreak of the Great War brought to

everyday life in Upper Hutt. With the

establishment of Trentham Camp and

other important military facilities in

the area, Upper Hutt became a major

centre of activity in New Zealand’s

war effort. The display uses a 1915

map of the area to show what was

happening where at that time.
