Several survey-takers included their name and contact information to qualify for the $100 Visa gift card drawing and the winner was Jim DeSmith of Fischer Evans Robbins, Ltd. Since its beginnings, the North Canton Chamber has supported the work of the Stark County Broadband Initiative to explore a regional effort to encourage collaboration on widely available and affordable high-speed connectivity. With the support of foundations and like-minded individuals, companies and institutions, the Forth Utility initiative is beginning a phase I study to determine the feasibility of a fiber network, who should own it and how it can be paid for. Representatives of the contracted firm will be in Stark County in early July, and the Initiative plans a public meeting in the fall to present the findings. Shown right is Marc Schneider making his June 27 pre- sentation to City Council to encourage a resolution in support of the project. I represented the NC Chamber at the recent Intelligent Community Forum Summit in Columbus. The Summit focused on leveraging technology, creativity, innovation and collaboration to prepare our communities for the future and was attended by mayors, city managers, CIOs, tech executives, urban planners and economic development pro- fessionals. I appreciate the Chamber Board's support in allowing me the time to get away and spread the word about North Canton's attributes and potential and to network with global thought leaders. In closing, the Chamber notes the passing of Board Member Debbie Reho’s mother Rosemary Waldron on June 9. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. The statue captures the 1966 joining of the AFL and NFL. Shaw was part of the Buffalo Bills team to win three straight Eastern Division titles and two AFL championships and is the only player ever inducted into the Hall who never played in the NFL.
