According to STATS, LLC, the Dodgers’ six-game winning streak over the Reds is their longest active streak against any opponent. The Dodgers played their second-consecutive extra-inning game yesterday, beating the Padres, 9-5, in 17 innings. The five-hour, 47-minute contest was the fifth-longest in franchise history and the longest by innings since 2007 (also at SD). Following this short series, the Dodgers head out on a seven-game road trip to New York (3 games) and Chicago (4). Seven of the eight regulars in the Dodger lineup played all 17 innings in yesterday’s game: Chase Utley, Corey Seager, Howie Kendrick, Adrián González, Joc Pederson, Yasiel Puig and A.J. Ellis. Dodger second baseman Chase Utley tied a Los Angeles record for assists with 13, joining Davey Lopes (April 12, 1980, 17 innings at Houston). and Willie Randolph (Aug. 23, 1989, 22 innings at Montreal). Howie Kendrick’s nine total bases (4-for-8, 2 2B, HR) yesterday were one shy of the 2016 Dodger high, currently held by Kiké Hernandez, who went 3-for-5 with a double and two homers against the Giants on April 15. Speaking of total bases, the Dodger record for total bases in a game was set on this date in 2002 by Shawn Green. Green set an ML record with 19 total bases and tied a Major League mark by scoring six runs while becoming the 14 th player in big league history to hit four home runs in a game. In that contest, a 16-3 victory over the Brewers in Milwaukee, the Dodgers established a team record with eight home runs in the game. ELECTION YEAR: All-Star balloting is underway online at Dodgers.com/vote, where fans can cast their votes for starters a total of 35 times with the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot, including a maximum of five valid ballots cast in any 24-hour period. THE PERENNIAL: Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw has been named to the All-Star team in each of the past five seasons and is well on his way to a sixth, perhaps as an NL starter for the very first time. Tonight, Kershaw looks to continue his dominant May, with four wins in four starts, a 0.82 ERA (3 ER/33.0 IP) and 48 strikeouts against just one walk this month. Kershaw has already established a club record with six consecutive starts with 10 or more strikeouts, striking out 68 and walking two over 48.0 innings in that span, and his six consecutive starts with 10+ strikeouts and one or fewer walks are the most in the Majors since at least 1913. With a 22.00 strikeout-to-walk ratio (88 SO, 4 BB), Kershaw is on pace for the highest mark in the modern era, far outpacing Phil Hughes’ 11.63 mark with Minnesota in 2014. The MLB record for consecutive double-digit strikeout games (single season) is eight, shared by Chris Sale (May 23-June 30, 2015) and Pedro Martinez (Aug. 19-Sept. 27, 1999). He could tie the NL record of seven tonight, set by Arizona’s Randy Johnson April 13-May 13, 2001. Kershaw leads the Majors with 88 strikeouts, a 0.70 WHIP, 70.0 innings and ranks among the big league leaders in wins (6, T-6 th ), ERA (1.67, 3 rd ) and opponents’ batting average (.181, T-4 th ). The last pitcher to strike out more batters than Kershaw through his first nine games in a season was Curt Schilling in 2002 (95). Kershaw leads all active players (min. 1500 IP) in shutouts (14), ERA (2.40), opponents’ batting average (.206), and WHIP (1.02). Dodger pitchers rank second in the Majors with 399 strikeouts, behind only Washington (412). The Dodgers’ 3.05 ERA at home ranks fourth in the National League and is more than a run better than their road ERA (4.27, 11 th ).
