    President's Letter

I start this month's note out with some inspirational quotes-

Cal Naughton, Jr.: Shake 'n Bake!

Ricky Bobby: No, never again. Cal Naughton, Jr.: You're right. I was like a total jerk, man. Ricky Bobby: From now on, you're the Magic Man and I'm El Diablo.

  • Cal Naughton, Jr.: What does Diablo mean? Ricky Bobby: It's like... Spanish for like a fighting chicken.

Welcome to race season my friends! Though I will not be at the meeting Friday, I hope to join the ranks of the other Star DMC racers and make the club proud with lots of round wins. This Friday the DMC Racers will be led by all star racer Tim The Bullseye Steenson. We have high hopes for victory, and honestly, we just love hanging out, telling stories, eating food and racing!

The Amazing Linda Smith will lead the meeting Friday, you are in great hands as she has a great agenda planned! This month you have two great choices for Friday, either come race with the crew at Bandimere or join the monthly club meeting at Phil Long. And though I would love to see you all at the track, you can't go wrong either way because you'll be hanging out with all your awesome DMC pals!

Also you won't want to miss your DMC run to Georgetown Saturday morning! Lots of great events this month, I hope to see you all!

I want to close this out with a huge THANK YOU to all who showed up at the Phil Long Car show and driving event at Columbine High school, and though some people cannot be trusted behind the wheel in residential neighborhoods it was a lot of fun and we raised over $1000 for the high school. Thanks to Terry and the Crew at Phil Long for setting it up and hosting us!

    Happy Racing-

    El Diablo!

    May Recap...

    Garage Day - May 5th

Great turnout by DMC members to the 1st Garage Day. We worked on several Mustangs, including two big projects. Lots of members jumped in to help each other.

Special Thanks to Nancy Hawkins for hosting an awesome taco bar and to Terry Lewand, Ken Smith, and Mark Gomez for helping host the event.

Phil Long Columbine High School Fundraiser - May 12th

Several DMC members showed up to assist Phil Long with their "Drive" Fundraiser.

  • DMC was probably the most significant support of this event.

Thanks to Terry Palko and the Phil Long Team for all the hospitality.

    Classic Car Adventures: May 17-21

With about 40 other vehicles, Steve/Mitzi Katz and Cathi/Mark Gomez took part in the annual Classic Car Adventures Silver Summit. It was an amazing drive over 3.5 days covering over 1200 miles between Colorado and Utah.

The event took them from Denver to Clifton to Gateway to Telluride to Moab to Rangely to Rifle. Great driving roads, good food, out of the beaten path car museums and a really nice group of folks made this an event to remember. Any DMC members wanting to do this drive next year should sign up early since it is expected to sell out. Your car must be built before 1979 to participate.

    Safety Moment

During the hot summer months, it is important to remember to make sure vehicles are properly equipped with roadside emergency supplies to help keep families safe this summer. Before logging all those miles on your family road trip this summer, remember to:

Beat the Heat: Inspect the radiator, pressure cap, belts, and hoses to make sure they are in good shape with no signs of blisters, cracks, or cuts in the rubber.

  • Hydrate Your Vehicle: Check fluid levels: brake, automatic transmission, power steering, windshield washer and coolant. Make sure each reservoir is full and if you see any sign of fluid leakage, take your vehicle in to be serviced.

Before any longer trip, any time of year, remember to give your vehicle a check-up:

    • Check the air pressure in all tires, including the spare • Make sure the wiper blades are functioning properly • Check battery life and inspect batteries and battery cables • Inspect brake pads and linings for wear; change the oil and filter according to

manufacturer's service interval specifications • Test the headlights, brake lights, turn signals, emergency flashers and interior

    lights

Don't forget the roadside emergency kit! Even if you've prepared your vehicle for summer travel, it never hurts to have a 'just in case' kit in your trunk. Your emergency kit should include:

    • Jumper cables • Flashlight • Emergency flat tire repair and/or spare tire • Gloves, blankets and towels • Hazard triangle, road flares, brightly colored distress sign, or 'Help' or 'Call

Police' flag • Screwdrivers and wrenches • First aid kit • Cell phone and charger • Water for both the car radiator and your family • High-calorie, non-perishable food

Summertime fun can come to a screeching halt in the event of an emergency. Make sure you are prepared this summer!

    Special thanks to safety contributor:

    DMC FunRun 2018 - Update!

  • From: The Planning Team

    Fun Run Act III

    Three Days: September 8-10, 2018

SOLD OUT! FINAL PAYMENTS DUE ON FRIDAY!!!

    Attendees Get Prepared!

As we plan on the Fun Run, please be sure your vehicles are ready for 3 days of hard driving. There will be twisties and areas of poor service and lack of immediate access to parts etc. Check your tires (including for age), brakes, and bring extra fluids, tools and spare parts. A good thing to bring is a Hazard Triangle and a Fire Extinguisher. The Hazard Triangle is necessary if you have to pull off to change a tire etc.

We also recommend you have a cooler with drinks and snacks. Check with your insurance company and have information on getting your car towed should that be necessary. While the club members will be there to help, please plan on taking care of your own needs just like you would any personal trip you take.

    Planners Are Preparing!

The volunteer team will be doing a pre-drive to work through the route very soon. Please note that directions etc will be based on our collective best effort. Road closures and construction, etc. could force unplanned re-routing.

Paper directions with key destination points will be provided.

    Get WhatsApp!

Like last year, we will be using WhatsApp as our means for primary communications to and for all attendees. This year, we'll attempt to use WhatsApp to send out a link with Google Map directions. (Please download WhatsApp at your earliest convenience! Go to your App Store and download "WhatsApp.")

    Odds and Ends...

Please use your GPS for exact turn by turn directions. We will also send out group text messages as we have updates. Be sure we have your phone number. There will be areas of poor cell coverage so we hope you will forgive us if you do not get a message when it is sent.

  • A couple volunteers recently visited the hotel in Clifton as well as the dinner location (Cider Bar) for Saturday evening recently. Both facilities are good. They did drive part of route so be prepared for some amazing roads.

Send Us Your Cell Phone Number!

Until the next update, please email the phone number you registered on your whatsapp account to [email protected] with "DMC WhatsApp" in the subject line. Include the names and telephone numbers of all people in your party.
