SPELLING BEE WINNERS Congratulations to the winners of our school Spelling Bee! Catelyn Moldenhauer (7th Grade) spelled her way into first place and Ben Stella (6th Grade) came very close with second place. Great job!

NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK Theme – Our God is Real and Present Here January 27-February 2, 2019

Monday – Patriotic Day - Wear red, white, and blue or other patriotic apparel. Jeans or red, white, and/or blue pants are

allowed.

Tuesday – PJ/Comfy Cozy Day - Wear your pajamas, robes, slippers, comfy cozy/casual clothes (sweat shirts, sweat pants, t-shirt of favorite team), bring a stuffed animal, a favorite blanket to school. No stretch pants for the girls. No jeans.

Wednesday – Sports/Sparkle Shirt Day - Wear favorite sports team shirt (college, professional, or Immanuel) or wear a shirt that has sparkles – Jeans or sweat pants are allowed (no stretch pants).

Thursday – Disney/Favorite Animal Day- Dress as a favorite animal or a Disney character. Just a t-shirt. No tight or revealing clothing, or holey clothes. No make-up, hair coloring, or masks. Nothing scary or gory either.

Friday – Christian/Immanuel Shirt Day - Wear Christian clothes, jewelry, etc. Jeans or sweat pants may be worn (no stretch pants).

Praise Rally 2:00 pm in Worship Center (showcase of Immanuel talent and praise) – All parents are welcome!

National Lutheran Schools Week Service Projects

(Pre3 – 4th Grade) : Wellspring – Collecting diapers, wipes, and lotion for new moms through Wellspring services. (5-8) : Serving Our Community – 5th through 8th grade will be serving others in our community, participating in activities

such as : bingo at the nursing home, reading to special needs students at area schools, playing games with adults with special needs, etc…

BAKE SALE BY STUDENT COUNCIL – Wednesday, January 23rd Food items brought in by only 5th-8th grade students on Tuesday, January 22nd. Bring bake sale items to the school office.

Items need to be individually wrapped No frosting or other messy items Peanut/treenut free Items will be sold for $0.50 each

The class in 5th-8th Grade that has the highest percentage of participation of bringing in items will win a Comfy Cozy Day.

Sale will be in the gym. Students wishing to purchase will need to bring in money that day. Students will go to classroom first to unpack and then can go to the gym to purchase bake sale items Sale will continue during lunch on the stage if any items are left.

Strategies will be shared on how to assist children as growing readers. Kindergarten Open House You are invited to a presentation by our principal, Mr. Neumeyer and our Kindergarten Teachers to learn more about our wonderful school. Presentation begins at 6:30 and will include a tour. Enrollment for the 2019-20 Kindergarten year begins that evening after the presentation.

Tiny Treasures We still have Tiny Treasures Openings for our current session. If you or someone you know is interested in this class for 2 year olds and their parent/caregivers, please have them call or email Laurie (see above).

2019-20 Registration/Open House Registration will open for current and returning families and church members on February 19, 2019 at 11:30 am. Information packets and forms have been sent home. You can let your friends and neighbors know that we will open registration to the community on February 25th at 8:30. Also, please invite friends and family to join us for our All School Open House on January 27th, 1-3pm. Kid’s Ministry Kid’s Ministry has begun!. Classes are available for children ages 0-4th grade. Children ages 0-2 attend with a parent. Classes are free, and you can register online here.

Are you interested in learning more about the amazing gifts God gives to both young and old through baptism? Please join Janet Hilsabeck as she hosts Baptism Seminars on the 3rd Sunday of each month. MRS. THORPE – LEAVE OF ABSENCE Hello Everyone! I will be taking a short leave of absence due to surgery. I will be out from January 10th – February 22nd. During this time my sub will be Michelle Lonser. Michelle will be checking my emails, voicemails, and taking on all my other tasks. Please continue to call in your absences and email me as normal, Michelle will be answering you. I will miss you and all the children over the next 6 weeks. See you at the end of February!

DONATIONS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS Mrs. Thorpe is on a committee for the upcoming Michigan District Office Personnel Conference. As a service project, conference attendees will be filling gently used purses with beauty products for women in domestic violence shelters. These women often are unable to bring luxuries, such as purses and beauty products, along with them when fleeing an abusive situation. If you would like to donate any gently used purses or new beauty products (either full size or sample size) please bring them into the school office between now and March 29, 2019. Thank you so much!

STRINGS PROGRAM

Does your student have an interest in stringed instruments? Check out the violin program for beginning and advanced students on violin, viola, cello, and harp! This strings group can serve as an introduction or as a supplement to private lessons - there is something to be learned from preschool and up. No previous experience needed; students will be provided information on how to rent or buy an instrument. The group is held at the instructor’s home, one mile from Immanuel. Ultimate DanceFit is a full -body workout that's actually fun. It's good for your heart, it makes you stronger, and it can help with balance, coordination, and gross motor skills! For this class we will fuse Generation POUND and DanceFit for an Ultimate DanceFit jam session.

TUESDAYS- Self-Defense/Karate by Master Tong- Music Room $100 includes belt and board

1st Grade and up

Session 2 - Jan 8, 15, 22, 29 Feb 5, 12, 19, 26 Ongoing - beginning - returning - get your next belt level! Hup Kwon Do methods of self-defense including blocks, punches, strikes, kicks and release techniques will be taught.

Also, discipline, self-control and other Martial ways of respect and honor is stressed in every class. Students will be tested on the last day of the session and will be awarded a color belt for their effort if acceptable performance is shown. Students that participated in this class before will learn new and more advanced material.

Have fun learning to use your breath and movement; to be calm and more aware of how you are feeling, learn Scripture that helps you draw near to God when you feel low, and to experience Him more deeply. Kids will leave the session with their own mat and a flip book to help them remember what they’ve learned.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Archery! Learn everything from the history of archery, safety, proper form and technique and equipment. Plenty of shooting will be provided.

Students will learn Olympic T Form, scoring targets (NFAA and FITA), 3D and field archery and shot placement for hunting with a bow. Taught by USA Archery Coach L4NTS, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Outdoor Skills Pro-staff, and board member of the Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education.
