On June 2-4, 2019, I along with Barbara Ezell will be attending the annual gathering of the North Alabama Conference. I have a couple of reflections about the upcoming meeting. First, I ask for your prayers during the meeting of the North Alabama Conference. The lead-up to our gathering has been filled with theological division related to the February 2019’s meeting of the General Conference of our United Methodist Denomination regarding human sexuality. The meeting of our North Annual Conference will include the matter of human sexuality as the selection of representative delegates (Laity & Clergy) takes place. The election of said delegates will attend the 2020 General Conference meeting in May 2020 (regularly scheduled meeting of), as well as the Jurisdictional Conference in August 2020. Pray that God’s representation from the North Alabama Conference will be chosen as people that stand on God’s word to lead our great church. During the meeting of Annual Conference, I anticipate healthy, and unfortunately unhealthy, floor discussion to take place during this time of Conferencing, and only prayer can defeat evil’s presence to disrupt, dispute and deny God’s presence during our conferencing time. So, I call upon you as a United Methodist Congregation to call upon God’s Holy Spirit to lead all facets of our gathering time, discussion and discernment time, and voting time. Thank you! Secondly, it’s hard to believe that one year has completed as I serve as your pastor. It has been an exciting and fun year my friends! We have done a lot of learning about each other; learning to trust each other; and learning to become one/unified/together in our call to make disciples as a congregation and as partners in ministry. And yet, there is much to do, don’t you agree! Friends, frankly…I am excited about what the next year holds. I believe growth is coming our way! Oh, it won’t / it isn’t just going to happen by chance! Our growth will come through concerted, dedicated, committed and intentional efforts of ministry on our unified part. God’s call for us has been discerned in this last six months to be: God is leading us to transform the Hueytown Community and beyond by making disciples of Jesus Christ. God is calling us to fulfill our Vision by helping people: Connect, Celebrate, Cultivate and Contribute. Our mission and vision call us to live out our core values: Be Outwardly Focused; Be a community of Grace; Be Intentionally Growing; and Choose to Trust and Serve. As a church body, our daily lives have got to be once again filled with being invitational, risk taking, and creating intentional change. Scripture tells us NOT TO FEAR. The days ahead, if we do nothing different, are filled with unknown fear of “what might happen.” But…the days ahead, if we are filled with being Invitational, risk taking, and creating intentional change, can create new life. Do you believe that good things are happening in your church? Do you believe you see God at work in your church? Do you know ANYONE in the circle of your life that could use a dose of the GOOD THINGS God is doing here? I am assuming your answers are YES, then invite them and commitment to join them here. Not one of us is TOO OLD to introduce someone to Christ. Remember, we do what we want to do…don’t you want to lead someone to the Father’s love…. Be reminded friends that God has a calling upon our church – make disciples. To Christ’s Glory, Bro. John V.

Greetings Followers of Christ! On June 2-4, 2019, I along with Barbara Ezell will be attending the annual

gathering of the North Alabama Conference. I have a couple of reflections about the upcoming

meeting. First, I ask for your prayers during the meeting of the North Alabama Conference. The lead-up to

our gathering has been filled with theological division related to the February 2019’s meeting of the

General Conference of our United Methodist Denomination regarding human sexuality. The meeting of

delegates (Laity & Clergy) takes place. The election of said delegates will attend the 2020 General

Conference meeting in May 2020 (regularly scheduled meeting of), as well as the Jurisdictional

Conference in August 2020. Pray that God’s representation from the North Alabama Conference will be

chosen as people that stand on God’s word to lead our great church.

During the meeting of Annual Conference, I anticipate healthy, and unfortunately unhealthy, floor

discussion to take place during this time of Conferencing, and only prayer can defeat evil’s presence to

disrupt, dispute and deny God’s presence during our conferencing time. So, I call upon you as a United

Methodist Congregation to call upon God’s Holy Spirit to lead all facets of our gathering time, discussion

and discernment time, and voting time. Thank you!

Secondly, it’s hard to believe that one year has completed as I serve as your pastor. It has been an

exciting and fun year my friends! We have done a lot of learning about each other; learning to trust each

HOLY LAND

Okay Friends, it’s getting exciting as we move within 6 months of heading to the Holy Land 2020. IT’S NOT TO LATE to join the group. We currently have six folks signed up to go. Let’s get this number to ten (10). It will be a memorable trip to share together. Do you have family members that might want to go? Invite them to join you! Do you know someone that might like to travel with us? Invite them to join us? If you are interested in the trip or know someone who is please let me know as soon as possible.

Thanks! Bro. John V.

RED BIRD MISSION TRIP

The Red Bird Mission Trip is scheduled for September 8, 2019 to September 14, 2019. If you would like to participate in this year’s 2019 mission trip, please contact the church office as soon as possible. The deadline for turning in the number to Red Bird of team members is quickly approaching. Be aware that if someone indicates they are participating, and later has to back out for any reason, the registration has to be paid once the number is turned in to Red Bird. Let’s have another fantastic trip!

IT’S THAT TIME….

June 10th at 6:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall we will meet and plan for the Christmas Shoeboxes.
