Dear Parents and Guardians
Thank you for a busy, productive and rewarding year. It has been a very special week at Lindisfarne with our Primary and Secondary Speech Nights drawing a capacity crowd to celebrate the achievements of our students, staff and school in 2016.
Over the holidays the inaugural edition of our annual school magazine ‘The Lighthouse’ will be mailed to you, shining a light on the considerable achievements of the 2016 school year.
I trust that all families enjoy some downtime and renewal over Christmas and the New Year. I wish all families a safe and holy Christmas and a very happy New Year.
For a child has been born for us,a son given to us;authority rests upon his shoulders;and he is namedWonderful Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Merry ChristmasHave you ever tried to explain the real meaning of Christmas to one of your children? It isn't easy. There is so much tradition mixed up with spiritual truth that it's sometimes hard to set apart Jesus from Santa Claus or the Wise Men from the snowmen. Sometimes our children (and some of us) have a hard time understanding what it all means.
I saw a cartoon called "Marvin" that illustrated this well. In the first frame a young mother has just finished reading the Christmas story to her young son. The boy had a puzzled look on his face as he sorted his thoughts. Then he thought to himself, "Let me see if I've got this straight . . . Christmas is baby Jesus' birthday, but I get the presents?"
Christmas has a long and complicated history, with many practices, traditions and rituals being observed and celebrated over the centuries, but one central truth permeates all practices, traditions and celebrations. God’s love became real and human in the person of Jesus. Born in humble circumstances, to humble parents, in a normal little town, and yet the amazing love of God was lived out in such an authentic and genuine way that we continue to remember and celebrate the birth and life of God’s son over 2000 years later on the other side of the world!
However, Christmas has the potential to be much more than remembering an historic event. The love of God that was perfectly lived and modelled in the person of Jesus is available to every one of us if we are open to that potential. I give thanks at Christmas that God’s love, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, wisdom and respect continue to be lived out in the lives of people who choose to be faithful to God, and are inspired to share that love with others.
This Christmas, I hope and pray that one of the “presents” you might receive on Jesus’ birthday is a renewed awareness of God’s love, peace and joy being ‘birthed’ and renewed in you, so that you can share that present with others.
Every blessing for a safe and Holy Christmas.
