MOUNT SINAI “LOVES BEING HEALTHY” JR. ACADEMY by Glory Pierre

What a special day it was for our students

here at Mount Sinai Jr. Academy on Friday, March

27th. Roniece Weaver and her fellow sisters of the

Orlando Chapter of Links, Inc. came out and

showed our students some delightful and tasty ways

to eat healthy! Our students had the opportunity to

try new vegetables while learning how much fun

eating healthy can be.

This event started off with the kids learning

proper and balanced meal portions. They then pro-

ceeded to the Fresh Stop bus and gathered healthy

snacks and groceries to take home to their families.

They even enjoyed a special smoothie

made with spinach and tried a different variety of

cabbage! Our students absolutely loved it and

even came back for seconds.

Once they exited the Fresh Stop bus, stu-

dents were able to ride a special bike that blend-

ed the delicious spinach smoothie into its rich

and hearty texture. Students returned to class sat-

isfied and enlightened to the fact that maybe veg-

etables are not so bad after all.

D.I.V.A.S. Basic Sewing

It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you Bro. Herbert Gaines, a newly baptized member of Mt. Sinai S.D.A. Church and a product of the Revelation Sem-inar, which took place last September under the ministry of Pastor Herman Davis. Bro. Gaines was born in Georgia and later relocated to Florida at a young age. He celebrated a birthday on March 29th. Brother Gaines worked for many years at the Orange County Public Utilities Department, from which he recently retired. Bro. Gaines has always been an ardent seeker for truth, and in particular, the Sabbath truth. God rewarded his quest for truth, and guided his steps to the Mt. Sinai Church, where during the Revelation Seminar, he not only learned about the wonderful truth of the Sabbath, but accepted it with great joy and became a Sev-enth-day Adventist Christian last October. He is currently a faithful member of Pastor Davis’ Sabbath School Class. He continues to be an ardent seeker for God and takes literally 2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” His favorite book is the Bible and his passion is to share 2 Timothy 2:15 with Mt. Si-nai’s youth. His words of advice to the congregation are: “You cannot fail with Jesus!” Bro. Gaines’ favorite pastime and hobby is gardening. If you have not visited the Prayer Garden recently, please do so where you will immediately observe his skilled handy work displayed. He has lovingly dedicated numerous hours to keep-ing our Prayer Garden, not only in tip top shape, but also a place of restful beau-ty. Bro Gaines is also very generous with his time as a dedicated volunteer in the Community Services Department. The next time you see Bro Gaines, please express your thanks to him, not only for his untiring service to His Lord and our congregation, but also for his testimo-ny and example as a follower of our Lord. We love you Bro Gaines, and consider ourselves truly blessed to have you as a member of our congregation!

FINALLY, A WONDERFUL PASTIME, bonding

activity and lost art! Those were the words of par-ents as their daughters learned the basics of sew-

ing under the tutelage of Eulanie Lashley on Feb-ruary 21st. Mrs. Lashley taught the *D.I.V.A. girls three es-

sential stitches, which are the tools needed for most sewing projects. In addition, she taught them how to repair torn clothes and replace miss-

ing buttons. So with fabric, thread, needles, scissors, friends

and a whole lot of stitches, the *D.I.V.A.S. had a fun evening learning the basics of sewing.

*Divinely, Inspired, Victori-ous, Aspiring, Sistas is a Women’s Ministries men-toring, grooming, spiritual and personal development program for young girls ages 10-12 and teens 13-16.

Lunch and Outreach in the Park Although the temperature was very warm, the breeze coming from Clear Lake was just right to give the comfort that was needed for the great food, fel-lowship, prayer walks and outreach in George Barker Park on Sabbath March 21st. The Mount Sinai Family and guests enjoyed themselves. Our Pathfinder Strider Drum Corps demonstrated what they learned from the District 2 Drum camp. They wowed us with their newly acquired skills and cadences. After the delicious lunch, coordinated by our very dedicated hospitality team, several (including our youth and prayer ministry representatives) “hit the streets” to share the good news that Jesus is still in the saving business. Under the leadership of personal ministries, we also took surveys of the needs of the surrounding community and park visitors. Our youth were praised for being able to penetrate the fallow ground un-broken by adults that canvassed the same area. The Sabbath was brought to a close with testimonies from the vineyard, special music, and a powerful vesper thought from Psalm 1. It reminded us of the formula for prosperity which is finding delight in God’s law daily. When it was all said and done, we could say that we were glad we came. “Families Staying Connected: Our Oneness is Our Witness!”
