On January 28, 2003 family members reported Lawrence (Larry) Howard Groves, age 40, missing from his home and not tending to his antique business. His home, downtown Lakeville, was found locked and family members had no means of access. In June 2003, family members made entry into Mr. Groves’ home and found his body in the crawl space that had been closed with a rug over the opening.

On November 27, 1974, Vickie McDonough’s body, age 22, was found covered by old mattresses near a railroad access road approximately 300 feet south of Brick Road in Clay Township. It was later determined that the body had been placed at its location several days before. She had been shot twice in the back of the neck.

On December 26, 1982, unidentified human skeletal remains were discovered by deer hunters in a wooded area in west central Wayne county. A forensic examination of the remains was conducted and it was learned that they belonged to a Caucasian female. Foul play is suspected in the victim’s death. Dental records and DNA are available to assist in identification of the victim. The attached photo is a reconstruction of the victim.

On August 12, 1972, 25-year old, Vickie Lynn Harrell was last observed getting into her dark blue 1965 Plymouth Valiant 4-door at the K-Mart parking lot on the east side of Bloomington, Indiana. On August 13, 1972, Vickie’s roommate reported her missing to Bloomington Police. On August 14, 1972, Vickie’s body was discovered in Owen county on an access road to McCormick’s Creek State Park, approximately 2.5 miles east of Spencer, Indiana. Vickie’s body was nude and there was evidence that she had been strangled. A knife or sharp instrument had been used to carve two alpha characters on her chest, post-mortem.

On April 4, 1988, the body of April Marie Tinsley, age 8, was found in a ditch along CR 68 in southeastern DeKalb county. The victim had been missing from her neighborhood in Fort Wayne since the afternoon of April 1, 1988, when she never arrived home from school.

In the early morning hours of September 5, 1988, the burned body of Rebecca Harvey was found in her boyfriend’s burned home on Oak Grove Road in Washington, Indiana. Evidence indicated that Ms. Harvey had been doused with gasoline and set ablaze. Her boyfriend, 22-year old Steven Hendricks, was also reported missing and is believed to be a victim of foul play.

77Jason Janek, 24, was reported to have been at the Bar Rio located in Whiting, Indiana on the evening of May 23, 2004, and into the morning of May 24, 2004. Abul-Husn may have also been at this establishment during this time. On May 24, 2004, Janek was reported missing to law enforcement by family members. In the early morning of May 25, 2004, police in East Chicago, Indiana observed Janek’s truck. Upon trying to stop the vehicle, a pursuit ensued and the vehicle was lost. A short time afterwards the vehicle was located abandoned. Upon looking through the vehicle, the bodies of Janek and his friend, Abul-Husn were discovered in the bed of the pickup. The two men had been beaten and each shot in the head.

On August 27, 1991, Marsa Gipson, age 28, and a male companion were traveling westbound on Interstate 70. As they traveled underneath the Manhattan road underpass, two large rocks (exceeding 15 lbs. each) broke through their windshield, one of which killed Ms. Gipson, who was the driver. The two rocks were obviously thrown from the overpass where at least two subjects were observed. This was not an isolated incident, as similar incidents had occurred from the Manhattan overpass and other nearby overpasses during prior months, without killing anyone until Marsa Gipson.

Sometime between the late evening of Monday, April 5, 2004 and the early morning of Tuesday, April 6, 2004, 73-year old Russell Elliott was shot and killed in his home at 8005 South Zikes Road, Bloomington, Indiana. The suspects set the house on fire in an attempt to cover the crime.
