Unseen, Unexpected, Unforgettable
Who are expected to vote for Biodiversity in Europe? With their wallets, their actions and their feet?
What are we all doing to make them think a bit more about it?
A few things to consider…
Very few people know what Biodiversity means. And what it means to us.
85% of UK citizens thought Biodiversity was a washing detergent…
80+ % of the EU land area is not protected. Most of it is private land.
Europe is also more than the EU.
Many species live or move freely across national and EU borders.
Very few people know about the success of Natura 2000. How can they then be expected to pay for it?
Politicians need voter support. The voter is the key factor.
We humans are emotional beings. Not fact machines. We love and we hate. And then, maybe, think a little…
You will only care for and vote for what you’ve got feelings for.
But how have feelings for things you don’t even know exist?
What do we know works in favour of Biodiversity?
• Protected areas & species • Re-introductions • Re-wilding • Organic farming • FSC and MSC certification • Enforced hunting & fishing laws • Limiting chemical pollution • Limiting fertilizer leakage • Limiting pesticide use
= political desicions based on personal attitudes
Nature conservation works. We just need more of it. And new kinds of it.
But who is talking passionately with the voter about this?
Who is telling the wide audience the simple fact that there is light at the end of the tunnel?
