UNRIG UNCONFERENCE Session Proposal Guidelines We are excited for you to join us for the Unrig Unconference! The Unconference is your opportunity to take the agenda into your own hands: talk about an issue that’s important to you in a “Soapbox” talk or lead a workshop or a session on a topic of your choice. Here are a few tips to help you plan for the Unconference and deliver a great experience for other Unrig attendees. What Makes A Good Session: Here are some guidelines to keep in mind when thinking of session ideas: Relevant: Is your session topic relevant to the attendees of the Summit? Does it tie in to the movement for unrigging our political system? Is it accessible and appealing to a cross-partisan audience? Solutions-Focused: Solutions-focused sessions leave attendees with action steps they can take, build a shared resource, or teach skills that people can use to bring their work to the next level. Participatory: Does your session design encourage attendees to actively participate in the session? We recommend checking out these recommendations from AspirationTech.org. How To Propose A Session: You can propose a session by completing the Unrig Unconference Proposal Form, available here. Proposal forms will also be available at the Summit. Proposals will be accepted online until the evening before Unrig - 6PM CT on Thursday, March 28th - and in-person until the end of Saturday lunch, 2pm on March 30th.

What Makes A Good Session: Here are some guidelines to keep in mind when thinking of session ideas:

• Relevant: Is your session topic relevant to the attendees of the Summit? Does it tie in to the movement for unrigging our political system? Is it accessible and appealing to a cross-partisan audience?

• Solutions-Focused: Solutions-focused sessions leave attendees with action steps they can take, build a shared resource, or teach skills that people can use to bring their work to the next level.

• Participatory: Does your session design encourage attendees to actively participate in the session? We recommend checking out these recommendations from AspirationTech.org.

How To Propose A Session: You can propose a session by completing the Unrig Unconference Proposal Form, available here. Proposal forms will also be available at the Summit.

Proposals will be accepted online until the evening before Unrig - 6PM CT on Thursday, March 28th - and in-person until the end of Saturday lunch, 2pm on March 30th.

Information Required to Submit a Session: To submit a session, you’ll need to provide the following information:

• Your Information: Name, organization, contact info for you and any other presenters, and political affiliation (optional)

• Session Name: A title for your session

• Session Description: A brief description of what your session will be about

• Session Type: 5-minute “soapbox” talk, panel, training/workshop, roundtable discussion, or some-thing else (creativity and participation encouraged.

Due to room constraints, we will not have projection or audio amplification available. That means no support for slides/powerpoint, no mic, no speakers. We recommend bringing anything yourself that you might require. There will be wifi available but we strongly encourage you to download anything you might need in advance.

How Sessions Are Selected

1. All session proposals are due by the end of lunch, 2pm on Saturday, March 30th.

2. From 3-7pm, proposals will be posted inside the Summit venue and attendees will have a chance to vote, in person, for their favorite sessions. Note: Voting results are a significant input but they are not the only factor in the final selection decisions and scheduling.

3. Once voting is completed, a team of Summit organizers will finalize the Unconference schedule, working to create an agenda that features an array of topics and perspectives. If multiple proposals are submitted on a given topic, we may ask the proposers to join forces and hold a shared session.

4. Everyone who proposes a session will be notified by email of the accepted sessions on Saturday night following Unrigged Live (earlier if at all possible). The full Unconference schedule will then be posted online in the app, and in-person at the venue, for all attendees to access.

How to Pitch Your Session to Attendees

• Talk about your session idea with people you meet at the Summit to get their feedback and to get them excited about attending your session.

• Clearly explain what someone will gain from attending your session. What will they do or learn? Who might they meet or collaborate with?

• Think about what makes your proposed session or topic a good fit for Unrig: how will it contribute to fixing our political system, and how is it solutions-focused?

• Encourage the people you meet to vote for your session between 3pm and 7pm on Saturday.

Ready to propose your session? Fill out the proposal form online, or submit a paper form at the Summit.
