A little over a year ago, WFEC staff completed the process of obtaining an “Indenture” from RUS. Simply, that means our loan documents were restructured with RUS to allow WFEC to continue borrowing from them, but also to borrow money from “commercial sources”. It is still WFEC’s preference to borrow from the RUS whenever possible, but sometimes conditions dictate a faster process than RUS can accommodate. For example, our recent AK8 loan was completed and sent to RUS in early 2010, approvals occurred later, and final documents were sent to WFEC by RUS in August 2012 for execution. That is a fairly slow process no matter how you look at it. In 2012, many of the projects associated with oil development in Northern Oklahoma required projects in place on a much quicker timeline that the RUS process could meet. Consequently, a group of projects were chosen to finance through the Indenture from the Commercial Markets. WFEC recently completed a $100 million, 30 year financing arrangement with CoBank on these projects that truly was a 90-day versus an 18 month process. The interest rates are higher on commercial financing, however, timing on financing long-term projects is very good and financing rates on projects is very competitive with what you might see on a 30-year mortgage, if not slightly lower. While we will always try to finance as much as possible through RUS, our recent experience continues to indicate that Commercial financing is also a viable option.

In 2012, many of the projects associated with oil development in Northern Oklahoma required projects in

place on a much quicker timeline that the RUS process could meet.

The biggest energy waster in your house probably isn’t your oversized flat-screen TV, the swimming pool pump or another energy-guzzling appliance. It could be the ductwork.

Ducts running through the attic and ceiling deliver heated air to every room in your house. You can’t see them, so there’s no way to tell that they are leaking—except by having them inspected.

If you have energy-efficient, double-pane windows, you have caulked and weatherstripped around them and around doors and electric outlets, and your home is a newer, “tight” house but you’re still cold when the heat is on, your ducts could be leaking.

Ducts can spring air leaks at the joints—where one section connects with another. Duct tape, which ironically is not the best material for sealing those joints, can dry up and fall off over time. The resulting leaks allow heated air—or cooled air in the summer—to spill out before it has a chance to reach your rooms.

Sealing the resulting leaks can shave up to 10 percent off of your heating bill. Or, if the ducts are losing more than 15 percent of the conditioned air that flows through 10248 them, consider replacing them.Find out if they need attention by hiring a technician to inspect your heating system. Tell the tech if you’ve noticed that some rooms are colder than others when the heat is running.

It was an early October morning at the WFEC Hugo Power Plant outside of Ft .Towson. The plant

was pushing 400 MW, running smooth, the generator was generating, the operators were operating , the

mechanics were mechanizing, and the warehouse was bringing it all together.

Warehouse Worker Wendy Knight was starting her day as she always does organizing and

preparing for the day ahead. What she wasn’t aware of was a 42 legged friend that was watching her.

Warehouse Supervisor Becky Sargent was just finishing up a report when she heard a loud scream

followed by a gasp for air.

Warehouse Worker Joe Cheatham was receiving in a few packages delivered that morning when

he heard the same scream. Purchasing Agent Jana Jones 10284 was quoting some parts when she heard

the commotion. Everyone ran back to check on warehouse worker Roger Burns, but it was Wendy they

saw holding a broom and swinging it at a pallet. The cause of this morning’s dance with a broom was a

giant red headed centipede.

Once we all figured out what this thing was, we knew we had to get it out of the warehouse

immediately. While trying to transfer the critter from a box to a jar, it happened, it was like the Crocodile

Hunter only in WFEC’s warehouse. The little dude got away and all that could be seen was Jana and

Wendy almost knocking each other out trying to get away from the little creature.

Becky had a flashlight tracking this thing down and Roger was on the phone giving good advice,

and they finally captured it . It will forever be in their memories as the day a monster almost got away.

The moral of this story is: always pay attention in the warehouse because you never know what

creatures you may find. Story by Joe Cheatham

Want to Save Energy and Money? We Have Apps for That!

Remember the days when people kept in touch with far-flung family and friends by writing letters? I’m talking about tangible, handwritten notes on stationery, sent via the U.S. Postal Service with a stamp. Today, thanks to laptops, smartphones, and tablet devices, e-mail, texting, and social media have changed the way we talk to each other. And while these advances can make us feel like we’re “wired to the world” at all times, they can help us save energy, too.

As a member of Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives, the branding program of the nation’s electric cooperatives, we are proud to offer two mobile apps: Together We Save.com—Save Energy, Save Money, and one for our popular Co-op Connections® Card.

The TogetherWeSave.com—Save Energy, Save Money app, the newest addition to our Together We Save energy efficiency campaign portfolio, lets you see how much money you could pocket each month by switching from traditional incandescent lightbulbs to compact fluorescent lamps or light-emitting diodes. In addition, you can use the app to evaluate energy guzzlers in your home—for example, what does it cost to run a dishwasher for an hour? Kilowatt-hour rates specific to your co-op are needed for the calculations are available in the app by entering your ZIP code and selecting the co-op name.

In addition, the app delivers handy pop-up “Tip of the Day” reminders on ways to make your home more energy efficient and displays important co-op alerts and updates. The free app is available for Apple iPhones and iPads at the iTunes store and for Android smartphones at Play.Google.com; search for: Together We Save.

Your Co-op Connections Card connects you to savings on prescriptions, restaurants, hotels, groceries, and lots of other services from national and local retailers. The free Co-op Connections Card app uses GPS technology to help you quickly locate stores and businesses offering discounts and—better yet—share your favorite deals! Android and Apple iPhone versions of the app are available at www.Connections.Coop.

At Touchstone Energy, we take pride in our promise of providing you with safe, reliable and affordable electric service. But our promise goes beyond that. We are also dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve. These two money-saving apps are just another way we’re looking out for you! Find more ways to save at www.TogetherWeSave.com.
