ANITA
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS AND
RISK MANAGEMENT, CO-OP
INFINITE OPEN DOORS Co-op provides you with work experience for your résumé, but it’s also your opportunity to explore the ideas and industries that interest you. With each new work term, you’ll have a chance to try on a new role, and what you find can take you down a path you never expected.
That’s what happened to Anita, who used her co-op terms to explore the rapidly expanding field of data science and discovered a passion for the ethics of artificial intelligence. She even had the opportunity to help develop her employer’s first set of ethics guidelines for machine learning algorithm development. “It was definitely a life-changing experience,” reflects Anita. “I would not have discovered my passion in AI ethics, and ethics in general, if not for the co-op program.”
#DISCOVERTHEPOSSIBILITIES#THEFUTUREOFWORK
CO-OP: EARN AS YOU LEARNGet ahead of the competition with up to two years of work experience.
You can explore potential careers, build your network, master new skills,
and help pay for tuition, books, housing, or anything else you need.
HOW CO-OP WORKSYou’ll alternate study and work terms – most programs have a few sequence options available
to choose from. Some programs, like Mathematics/Chartered Professional Accountancy and
Business Administration and Mathematics Double Degree, are offered as co-op only. If your
program is offered in either system of study and you’re unsure which path you want to pursue,
we recommend applying to co-op when you submit your application.
YOU’RE NOT ALONE IN THE CO-OP PROCESS The Centre for Career Action is here to help you polish your
résumé, develop interview skills, and navigate your career path.

HANDS-ON WORK, HANDS-FREE DRIVING Joy isn’t a software developer or an engineer. But she is an integral part of WATonomous, Waterloo’s first student-run autonomous vehicle project.
