We are part of the national and international conversation on issues of significance: helping solve the challenge of feeding the world’s growing population with limited water supplies through research in the Daugherty Water for Food Institute and the National Drought Mitigation Center. Our new Center on Brain, Biology, and Behavior will lead a collaboration between the Big Ten and the Ivy League to study concussion injuries in student athletes. Our Diocles Laser facility and NU’s new designation as a University-Affiliated Research Center positions us as a major player in receiving defense research contracts. And Nebraska Innovation Campus is beginning its development as a major complex of public-private collaborative research primarily in the life sciences.

We also look at our relationships with students in China and across the globe as a signal of our international prominence. As the lead institution for NU we recently established an American Exchange Center in Xi’an with our

partner Xi’an Jiaotong University. We are the largest recipient of Brazilian undergraduate students under that country’s Science Without Borders program. Our students also continue to demonstrate that they can compete among the best. Last year our students received a record-tying nine Fulbrights, and four Goldwater scholarships — the most any single institution can receive.

Each of our students — whether from Nebraska, another state or another nation — represents a story yet untold. This university challenges every student and scholar to think big — to stretch their imaginations, and think beyond the boundaries of their current circumstances. We’re here to help make their story the most vibrant one possible.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is among the nation’s top 50 national public universities, a member of the Big Ten Conference and its academic equivalent, the Committee on Institutional Cooperation.

Membership in the CIC leverages faculty, funding, facilities, investments and ideas to help us all collectively succeed and compete in the global marketplace.

This is an exciting time for this university, fueled by the momentum of joining the Big Ten and CIC, and motivated by our vision for a bigger, better UNL as part of the Big Ten. We have set our sights on a university of 30,000 students, a $300 million level of research expenditures, a 70 percent 6-year graduation rate, and a significant increase both in the number and recognition of tenured faculty by 2017.

Each of our students — whether from Nebraska, another state or another nation — represents a story yet untold. This university challenges every student and scholar to think big — to stretch their imaginations, and think beyond the boundaries of their current circumstances. We’re here to help make their story the most vibrant one possible. Harvey Perlman

At the start of each academic year, new students have an opportunity to participate in the tunnel walk onto the Memorial Stadium field.

FROM TUNNEL WALK TO DIPLOMADISTINCTIONUNL is the lead institution in a $25 million project to reduce throughout the beef production chain the occurrence of E.coli strains. The $25 million grant is the largest-ever USDA grant to UNL.
