UITS MOVED TO ITS OWNPERMANENT CAMPUSUniversity of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), the First IT based private university in Bangladesh, was established on 7 August, 2003. It is a matter of immense pleasure and joy that UITS has been able to run its academic programmes by shifting to its own permanent campus in the city’s diplomatic zone since 11 November, 2019.This campus is built with aesthetic, spacious, attractive and modern architectural style. It is now well organised and has developed and modernised its academic and research facilities with the advanced state of the art equipment. Currently, there are about 5000 students and about 130 faculty members. Therefore, the own permanent campus is a seat of excellence to search knowledge for the betterment of modern civilization.

Department of Business Studies, UITS arranged a seminar on "Report writing" on 5th April, 2019 for the students of 11th, 12th Semester BBA and 1st. Semester MBA Programs. The purpose was to provide guidelines on standard formats for preparing internship and thesis reports.

On 18 April, 2019 a program titled "Topu Meets Students" was organized by the department of Business Studies, UITS with a reputed executive, Mr. Rashed Uddin Ahmed Topu. He is now the Chief Operating Officer of a multi-national company. He shared his experience and inspired the students regarding how to develop professional career and personal traits.

There were three categories in the competition, Power Point Presentation (Group), Quiz (Group) and Extempore (Single). Three winners from each field of the contest were selected by the judges who were faculty members of department of Civil Engineering. Honorable Vice-Chancellor of UITS Prof. Dr. Md. Solaiman was present as the Special Guest. Prof. Dr. Mazharul Hoque, Dean, School of Science & Engineering, UITS, Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam, DSW; Md. The program was followed by giving Certificates to the winners who obtain 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions and who were participated also.

Seminar on “EEE Job Sector in Bangladesh”

A seminar on “EEE Job Sector in Bangladesh”, organized by UITS EEE Club to help guide the graduating students to prepare for their career search, was held on 02 February, 2019. The session was chaired by the department Head of EEE, Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman. The seminar was conducted by Md. Ruhul Amin Ratul (Alumnus, UITS, & Asst. Engineer, Mega Yarn Dyeing Mills Ltd.) and Arnab Narayan Bhuiyan (Alumnus, UITS, & M.Sc in EEE Student, KUET).

A seminar on “Satellite Communication and Bangladesh’”, organized by UITS EEE Club to enrich the knowledge of EEE students about the recent developments in Satellite Engineering, especially from the Bangladesh point of view, was held on 01 June, 2018. The session was chaired by the department Head of EEE, Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, and conducted by Associate Professor of department of EEE, Dr. Palash Chandra Karmaker.

Department of PharmacyDengue Awareness Program

To spread and promote awareness of dengue and provide a safer and healthier living environment, Pharmacy Club of UITS observed dengue awareness and prevention day which covered dengue awareness activities. Students made placards conveying the message to prevent dengue. A special assembly was organized to spread awareness about the importance of proper environment sanitation in the fight against dengue and a seminar highlighting insights about the deadly fever was also arranged. A street play highlighting the causes, possible breeding sites of dengue mosquito and home remedies to prevent it, was presented by the interactors. A dengue awareness campaign was carried out, wherein students of the department educated mass people about the mosquito and preventive action to overcome dengue fever. Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammed Solaiman and other esteemed guests gave speech at seminar and applauded the endeavors of the Pharmacy Club.

Disease Awareness Program on Hepatitis A

Department of Pharmacy, UITS arranged a “Disease Awareness program on Hepatitis A” at the University auditorium in February 2019 in order to raise consciousness and reducing the fatality of Hepatitis A virus. Mr. Md. Mofazzal Hossain, Head of the department of Pharmacy presented an informative article where he mentioned Hepatitis as a “silent epidemic” because millions of people are living residing this virus without knowing its existence inside the body. The speaker said that Hepatitis A is

typically transmitted through the ingestion of contaminated water and food or contact with someone carrying the infection and if this infection persists for long time then it can lead to liver cancer. The speaker focused to hepatitis screenings as well as taking vaccinations to reduce the burden of illness and death from these diseases.

Department of LawPitha Uthsob

A cheerful Pitha Uthsob (Cake Festival) was held in the department of Law of the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), the first IT based University in Bangladesh. The Utshob was organized by the students of the department on 03 February, 2019. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of the university inaugurated the carnival in the witness of honourable Treasurer Prof. Dr. S. R. Hilaly, Controller of Examination Prof. ANM Sharif, Prof. Dr. Mazharul Hoque, acting Registrar Kamrul Hasan, Heads of various departments, teachers and other officials. In the daylong program, varieties of rural Pithas (cakes) were available at the stalls.

Intra-Department Debate Competition

An Intra-Department Debate Competition was held on ÒcÖavb mo‡K wi·v PjvPj eÜB hvbRU wbim‡bi

DcvqÓ at the department of Law, UITS on 01 August, 2019. Four teams, composed of various semesters, participated in the debate. Mohammad Ikbal Hasan, Assistant Professor of Law moderated the competition. Nadia Shabnam, Assistant Professor of Law, and Fahmida Juhra Rupa, Lecturer of Law witnessed the event as adjudicators.

The beginning of each new academic year marks the point where everyone can make a fresh start on succeeding with their education. Therefore, like every year, the department of Social Work, UITS arranged their annual excursion on 3 February, 2019. On this joyous day the students, faculty members and staff members of the department have visited few historical places of Tangail district including, Mohera Jamidar Bari and Atia Mosque. Mohera Jomidar Bari is one of the best preserved old edifices from Bangladesh and Atia Mosque (also known as Atia Jame Mashjid) is a historical 400 year old mosque located at Atia village in Delduar upazila. The students were introduced to the mesmerizing large artistic buildings, traditional and historical emblems. Moreover, the short trip was also filled with enjoying traditional foods, games, cultural activities and so on. Overall, this excursion provided a unique and enjoyable learning experience for students.
