News & Notes Jonathan Booker (studio of ??) participated in presentation at the first annual Graduate Research and Scholarship Projects Day on October 31 at the University Center Ballroom and Theatre-Room 210 presented by the Graduate School and the Provost office. Adam Plantz (studio of ??) also participated in this showcase of the rich array of graduate research-related activities across all disciplines. The “Spirit of Houston” including Cougar Marching Band, Cougar Dolls , Cougar Cheerleaders and featured Twirlers, will be marching in the Veterans Day Parade on Tuesday, November 11 in downtown Houston. Fifteen members of the Moores School of Music Symphony Orchestra have been invited to participate in the 60th anniversary concert of the Leipzig Academic Orchestra on Monday, November 24. Founded by current music director, Horst Foerster, as the third orchestra of the city of Leipzig, Germany, the orchestra presents an annual season of sold out concerts in the famous Gewandhaus, one of the most prestigious concert halls in the world. The celebratory program will feature Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with soloists and the Berlin Oratorio Choir, all led by Maestro Foerster. The students will travel to Leipzig, historically home to such famous composers as Bach and Mendelssohn, to perform with the orchestra and explore Houston’s sister city. Maestro Foerster has appeared in Houston on several occasions with the Leipzig Academic Orchestra and as guest conductor at the Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival. For over ten years, the orchestra has invited the annual winner of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist Competition, held at the Texas Music Festival, to appear on their concert series in Leipzig.
